We had the good fortune of connecting with Meg Nicolet and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Meg, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
In January of 2020, I started staying home full time with my sons (now ages 8, 6, 4 and 2). I stepped away from a career I loved in sales and marketing, but knew I wanted to spend the next season as a stay-at-home mom. Which ended up being very good timing with the pandemic hitting the world just a couple months later. Now over four years later, I’ve been dreaming about how I might apply my skills and passions toward something I love, but can still manage with young children at home. I love engaging with people, business development and have a heart for entrepreneurship. I also studied art in college and love the creative arts. For a few months I dreamed about how I could expand on these skills and interests and eventually The Golden Table was born! Luxury charcuterie is a beautiful blend of many things I love – helping people celebrate and connect, the challenge of starting and growing my own business and the creative result that always feels like an artistic masterpiece that others can enjoy.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business is The Golden Table. I specialize in luxury charcuterie that helps commemorate the most special moments in our lives, with the people we love most. Yes I live near Golden, Colorado, but the name truly refers to the “golden” occasions of our lives, the extra special moments that stand apart from the rest.

I’m passionate about these moments, being present for them, honoring, embracing and treasuring them. Through my business, I repeatedly get a window into these moments in others lives and it is incredibly rewarding. Whether it’s a special birthday, graduation, engagement, wedding or even a client appreciation event, I get to help create the setting where others can celebrate and connect. Food is a necessity of life, so why not make it beautiful? I frequently hear the terms “masterpiece” and “work of art” to describe my charcuterie, which is humbling and also exactly what I want my clients to feel.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
That is a hard question because I love so much about living in Denver! It’s hard to choose. Here are a few things that come to mind if I were hosting a friend for a week in our beautiful city:

– Bike ride or run around Wash Park with a picnic lunch in the park after.
– Dinner out in the River North Art District, enjoy the galleries and shops before or after. Also have to stop in the Denver Central Market!
– A show at the Denver Center for Performing Arts, so many excellent local artists and headline musicals.
– Sunrise at Red Rocks Amphitheater with your favorite cup of coffee.
– Dinner at The Hungry Goat in Morrison followed by a show at Red Rocks.
– Visit Golden! My personal favorite is enjoying the river walk and getting ice cream at Golden Sweets.
– Run or bike the Highline Canal, you’ll see so much of Denver and it’s an all around great trail.
– Coffee at Thump Coffee and walk around Cheesman Park.

I could go on and on, our city has so much to offer for every kind of visitor in every season.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband, Mark. He challenges me and encourages me to pursue my dreams. He believes in me and is always supportive. My four sons are a huge motivation to me as well. We are teaching them that they can pursue and achieve their dreams, and I have to keep myself accountable by following my own advice. Knowing they are watching my hard work and my belief in myself keeps me going. Another source of encouragement and inspiration to me is my Aunt Kathy, who is a dream maker herself. She sent me this quote when I started my business, “It had long since come to my attention that people of accomplishment rarely sat back and let things happen to them. They went out and happened to things.” – Leonardo Da Vinci
