We had the good fortune of connecting with Personify Cosplay and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Personify, why did you pursue a creative career?
I am a creative person by nature. I find that if I am not being creative often that I start to feel like my soul is starting to decay. Finding a creative path for me that was something I could do on my own and incorporate my love for stories and characters lead me to cosplay and I have never looked back.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Cosplay was a form of art that was not widely accepted for a very long time. When I started, it was still kinda niche but its popularity was starting to grow a bit more mainstream. Cosplay is wildly popular now and it’s so nice! It’s become so much easier to market myself but I feel like my work can very easily get lost. However, I think my biggest struggle has always been myself. I have a tendency to downplay my work because of some bad impostor syndrome and anxiety. Keeping up with social media is also a hard thing for me to do because of how negatively it can affect me. I try my best but it comes in waves. I introduced Twitch streaming as a part of my content creation in 2020 and I have been an affiliate for over a year. I feel that getting into streaming was the best thing I did for myself during lockdown. I was having an awful time with feeling motivated and feeling passionate about my craft anymore for the first few months. All I did was play video games for awhile to keep myself from feeling the weight of a global pandemic. Getting into Twitch, just to play those video games and chat with people is a decision I am thankful for everyday. Now Twitch helps keep me on a schedule and I get to chat with some many wonderful people every time I play video games or work on cosplay.

I started to cosplay competitively at NDK 2021 because I really wanted to push myself to grow and learn to overcome a lot of the fears I have held since I started cosplaying. I think it’s helped push me to become a better cosplayer and learn that I am indeed worthy of my successes. I also got to experience winning an award for the first time since high school and that was truly a wild ride! It has given me a chance to explore new mediums and refine my skills in so many ways and I am so excited to see where the next project takes me.

I strive to live my life to be creative and always find a way to show the world that I am passionately nerdy.

I have also used my cosplay to help my favorite charity organization, Cap for Kids, help raise money for families who are dealing with pediatric cancer. I have been attending conventions with them since 218 and have no plans to stop. They help families who are really struggling to help pay their day-to-day bills like mortgage, gas, phones, etc to help families focus on what is more important, helping their children through cancer treatment. They were founded in Colorado but have expanded to sponsoring children in other states as well and are on their way to take on their 50th family.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There are so many beautiful places in Colorado to do photoshoots. I love Legacy park in Fort Collins, Kanemotio Park in Longmont, Earth Illuminated in Denver, Bishops Castle in Rye, Wonder Wonder in Boulder and recently visited Granby Lake that I absolutely loved! There are so many beautiful spots in Colorado for photos for both cosplay and for everyday shoots.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are SO many people I could mention here because so many people have touched my life both personally and professionally but I will try and keep it short. Raikiri Cosplay & Ashley Sparks Cosplay are the two of the most important people in my life and they have been there for me through everything.

MothMuse has been a creative partner and amazing friend and they really are truly amazing.
