We had the good fortune of connecting with Presley Peach and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Presley, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
About six years ago I found myself in LA doing porn. At this point, I had already been a full time circus artist. Experiencing the porn industry really illuminated how broken American sex culture is. Not much in mainstream porn is real. In act, there is a lot of flaccid dick in porn, yet lots of Americans use this to learn about sex. For many people, porn is the first time they even see sex. For me, this is a problem. There shouldn’t be so much shame surrounding sex. Something so primal and essential to human life, shouldn’t be so hidden. There should be ways for people to explore fantasies AND receive education so they can make the best choices for themselves.
Knowing I could never leave circus, I started brainstorming ways to incorporate this new found realization with my existing passion. This is when I started ConSensual Circus. Circus is seen as a safe, non threatening space. Saying to a friend “let’s go to the circus” is a lot less scary then saying “let’s go to a sex ed class”. By combining these two we aim to educate on sex, create a more sex positive community, all while having fun.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As an a circus artist, my skill set is wide ranging. I started off as a hula hooper which has progressed into fire eating, juggling, aerial, and burlesque. I believe in riding the line between humorous, sexy, and morbid. My art is often shocking and absurd because life is shocking and absurd. We are all just trying to make sense of this chaotic world so I use my own personal chaos to do that for myself as well as the audience.

Being a full time artist is hard. Often, we aren’t taken seriously, “you make money doing that” is a phrase I hear often and showcases how undervalued art is. Yet we all need art, we all consume it, and we all benefit from it. As I progress as an artist personally, as well as a producer, I aim to continue to build a culture that values artists and pays them well.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
It should come as no surprise that a weekend with me is mainly comprised of going to see performance art. I spend a lot of time at HQ on South Broadway where they regularly produce burlesque shows, so that would need to be a stop. The Jester’s Palace for comedy, Enigma Bazaar for immersive art bar experience and craft cocktails, TRVE Brewery for good beer and metal, MCA Denver for contemporary art, and lastly Sunday brunch at McCoy’s.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There have been so many influential people in my life, this is by no means a complete list.

First, Bryan Pope for being the one to hear my ambitions of starting ConSensual Circus and say “fuck yes, let’s do it and I’ll help you”.

Quill Frank for teaching me much of what I know about clowning and fueling that fire within me.

Embur Rayne for continuing to show up in a big way for the Circus and for always embodying our mission in her life.

Any and all past and current members of ConSensual Circus. Each of them have made this project a success and I am so grateful to have ever created art with all of them.

The Jester’s Palace for popping into my life last October and offering a stage to bring back our monthly shows and for letting us get as weird as we want.

Lastly, maybe most importantly, anyone and everyone who has ever come to a show. This project is about the community and anyone who has participated in that community has made us what we are today.
