We had the good fortune of connecting with Priscilla Fields and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Priscilla, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Honestly, it was kind of a happy accident. I didn’t intend to start a business I just needed something to do outside of my mommy and wife role. My husband and I had 3 girls in a little over 3 years (phew!) so I left corporate to stay home because daycare costs made that option make sense. I took to the internet and found the world of freelancing. It seemed too good to be true and almost taboo (to me) to be able to stay home with my kids, make my own schedule and get paid to do something I was very familiar with, admin. I’m glad it worked, because to this day I still have an active profile on a freelancing platform which attracts new opportunities. This started a new journey of entrepreneurship for me.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Focus Virtual Business Solutions is an online support and business management agency that offers administrative relief to female business owners. We’re a team of Virtual Assistants(VA) and offer CEO’s admin support, process improvement and Dubsado account setups (as well as other platform setups).  This past October, I actually became a Certified Dubsado Specialist and I’m particularly proud of that considering the services we offer. We typically work with coaches, consultants and creatives and help them shrink their to-do lists or automate them, so they have the space and time to focus on more income generating tasks. What I love about my company is there’s no shortage of people who need admin support. Literally every business has administrative tasks that need to be completed, and once they’ve grown to a certain point that’s where my team and I step in to assist.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

I live in Las Vegas, the city that never sleeps, and there is literally something for every single audience at any time of the day. I have a happily blended family of 6 kiddos (15, 14, 12, 6, 5, 3) and I’m naturally an introvert so a good meal and a true crime show satisfies me. When I do get the itch to go out I’m usually escaping the hustle and bustle of Vegas tourism by going to Lake Las Vegas. Being close to water is relaxing in and of itself, but you can literally forget you’re in a desert with the scenery there. I love getting massages at the spa inside of The Westin and if you’re hanging out at the pool and decide to go to the bar, order a Miami Vice. Don’t forget water too because our triple digit summers are no joke! While you’re in that area Lake Mead has a number of water activities, dinner cruises and fishing to enjoy too.

Before having a night out on the town, I highly recommend connecting with Krissy Childs for makeup (@krissyonthebeat). She’s amazing at what she does and will have you ready to make every photo Instagram-able for your Vegas recap. If you’re looking for a nice steakhouse check out T-bonz inside of Red Rock Hotel & Casino. It’s a nicely mixed crowd and the customer service is A+. A local favorite for my husband to get a taste of home (Louisiana) are DB’s Cajun Kitchen or Chef Carol’s Southern Kitchen. Between the 2, if it’s a southern cuisine you’re craving you’re sure to find it on the menu at one of these establishments. Lastly, I’d say to visit The High Roller (at night) to get some breath-taking views of the famous Las Vegas Strip.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

I have to acknowledge my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ for even giving me the talents, will and divine connections to get to this point. This journey has been far from easy but most definitely worth it! My parents and I migrated from Kampala, Uganda in the late 80’s so everything from education to financial systems were a trial and error learning experience for them. They didn’t know what they didn’t know. They taught me all about grit and overcoming obstacles even when the cards get stacked against you. The sacrifice they made to leave home so I could have more opportunity makes me forever grateful.  Although they don’t get the ins and outs of my business they are so supportive and celebrate milestones with me.

So when I started out as a VA I had no clue what I was doing. I had an extensive background in administration but had never worked virtually and decided to give it a shot anyway. After landing a few clients I saw that there were areas that could use improvement, so I went on a search for podcasts to learn from. I discovered the podcast How She Did That? hosted by Tasha Booth. She opened my eyes to a world that I didn’t know existed. In administration, I was always the support to someone else so being the boss of my own company was the farthest thing from my mind. I was just trying to be a better assistant. Just a little over 2 years later and completing a number of Tasha’s programs, she coached me into the VA and now, VA agency owner I am today.

Another contributing factor to my success is the business accelerator, Sistahbiz Global Network that actually started in Colorado. I met the owner and head business coach, Makisha Boothe, when she was looking for a Dubsado expert to build out some workflows for her coaching program. After working together, I joined her network and haven’t had a single regret. Through Sistahbiz I’ve received coaching, learned invaluable business lessons from powerhouse members, been given opportunities to teach in my area of expertise, have a sense of community from entrepreneurs who look like me, secured my largest client to date and have access to funding and other great resources.

Last but surely not least, my husband Deshaun Fields deserves a shoutout. He believed in me to build this business at times when I had given up on myself. His encouragement has carried me through some really trying times that I couldn’t see my way out of. Hands down he’s been and continues to be my biggest cheerleader and amazing business partner.

I wish I could’ve pinpointed just 1 person, but my reality is that I couldn’t have done it without any of these individuals and I’m so blessed to have them in my life.
