We had the good fortune of connecting with Caitlin & Caleb Aslor and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Caitlin & Caleb, what matters most to you?
We have many values at the Cavern, but the biggest overarching value that encompasses them all is creating a space where clients can come as they are and be fully themselves. It can be daunting to be in front of a camera, and social media has created a climate that breeds comparison. It can be easy to want to “look” a certain way in photos or to feel like you were never meant to be in front of a camera in the first place. But this just isn’t true! Everyone deserves to have photos of themselves that they can love and treasure. We work really hard to cultivate an atmosphere where people can relax and be themselves in front of the camera. We tell clients to come as they are, and we will do the rest.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Caleb started Caleb M. Photography when he was 17 years old. He shot weddings, concerts, and pretty much anything else he could book. In 2017, Caleb & I (Caitlin) began shooting together (and dating…) and we decided to rebrand his company as The Cavern Photography. At the time, I was finishing my undergraduate, and Caleb was working as a general contractor. Still to this day, The Cavern is a side hustle. It has grown hugely over the past four years, and we feel so lucky. The growth can largely be attributed to word-of-mouth and the support of our family, friends, and clients. Today, Caleb and I are married living in Fort Collins. Caleb is a construction superintendent and I work with high school students through a local non-profit, while also finishing my master’s degree online. We are busy, to say the least! But we’ve learned that we can always make time for passions that we love, and photography is one of them. It’s not always easy to make time for all the things we want to do in our life, but we have learned how to prioritize, set boundaries, and be intentional with our time. The biggest thing we want people to know is that we just absolutely love what we do. We love capturing people and their stories, and we love building relationships through the process. We like to keep things simple and help people feel as natural and as comfortable as possible. Taking photos of others, whether it’s on their wedding day or a family photoshoot, is something we always feel privileged to be a part of. Caleb & I love to be creative and this is one of the ways we get to do that.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Caleb & I live in Fort Collins, and we think it’s one of the coolest places to live in Colorado. If we had a friend visiting the area, we would want to give them a good mix of food, drink, and outdoor activities. In terms of where we’d want to eat, we could list just about a billion places. Some of our top choices would be the Rio, Coopersmith’s, Scrumpy’s, and the La Campechana taco truck off of Hickory St. These are just a few of our favorite stops in Fort Collins, but we’d also do a day out in Old Town so that our friend could experience all the shops and the people that make Old Town Fort Collins what it is. We’d spend the day checking out shops, probably hit Odell’s or New Belgium for a brewery tour, and then we would end the day with dinner and dessert in Old Town. Oh, and we’d want to do it all with bikes as transportation. To fill the rest of the week, we’d want to check out some of the beautiful outdoor spots surrounding Fort Collins including Horsetooth, Lory State Park, and the Poudre Canyon. If the weather allowed it, we would take our friend paddle boarding at Horsetooth, cliff jumping at Seaman Reservoir, and fishing up the Poudre Canyon. This is just a small look into what we could fill our week with. Fort Collins is an absolute blast, especially during the summer months,

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
When I (Caleb) was in high school, I taught myself photography through trial and error and YouTube videos. When Caitlin came into the picture, I taught her everything I had learned from the culmination of experiences and videos. From there, we began to learn from each other, and that has been a really unique gift. We also pull daily inspiration from the myriad of photographers who are beyond talented on Instagram. It has been fun for us to watch other creators and get inspired by photographers who shoot all around the world.
