We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachel Blunk, LAc and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rachel, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The answer to this is three-fold.
The credit first goes to my patients. I am deeply grateful to have amazing patients who refer their friends, family and even strangers they meet at the salon to me. I would not be as successful without them!
Secondly, I fell into a niche that is in demand. After my own struggle with infertility, I threw myself into learning everything I could about acupuncture and improving fertility naturally. This was fate/divine intervention, and it ended up helping my business enormously. As awful as that struggle was, I am grateful for it because I understand my patients and what they are going through, and will research all avenues to figure out what their underlying issue is.
Finally, as a 3 on the enneagram, I am and have always been determined to succeed. I love what I do and pour my heart and soul into my patients and my practice.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Over the past 23 years, I’m most proud of helping hundreds (maybe thousands?) of couples achieve their dream of having a healthy baby.
I wouldn’t say that it was easy to get to where I am today, but I have combined hard work, and consistency with good fortune and being in the right place at the right time. Also, I have taken many continuing education courses to learn the most cutting edge information in the world of fertility acupuncture, and consult with colleagues when needed.
One lesson I learned early was to make connections in the community. I refer frequently to fertility doctors, OBs, midwives and others, depending on what my patient needs. I can’t do it all myself, and there is often someone out there who can help. I do what I do best, and let the other experts do their thing.
I want the world to know that if someone is struggling with infertility, and there are still eggs, sperm, and a healthy uterus, that conception is possible. Don’t give up. I have seen remarkable results and many miracle babies come into this world.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
In the warmer months, I would take them hiking up at Horsetooth and then paddleboarding on Horsetooth reservoir. Afterwards, a trip to New Belgium Brewery where we could catch a live show and eat from a food truck. Speaking of food trucks, the food truck rally in City Park in the summer is a lot of fun!
In colder months, I would bring them skiing, or snowshoeing if they aren’t skiiers. Then dinner at 415, Phillipe, or Persimmon.
Of course we would take a walk around Old Town to do some shopping and more eating at the Exchange. Vatos Tacos for the win!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have been working with Dr Kevin Bachus at the Rocky Mountain Center for Reproduction for over 20 years. Together we have helped hundreds of couples achieve their dream of having a baby. Dr Bachus was skeptical of Chinese medicine at first, but after he saw some surprising results in our mutual patients, he saw the value in blending Western and Eastern medicine for optimal fertility results.
