Meet Rachel Mynes | Cake Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachel Mynes and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rachel, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
“I have two daughters, and one of my greatest joys has been throwing them adorable birthday parties. For the first few years, I always ordered their cakes from a local home baker, but when she retired, I struggled to find another baker whose work I truly loved. That’s when I decided to learn how to bake and decorate cakes myself so I could continue making beautiful and delicious cakes for my girls.
I dove into YouTube tutorials, practiced constantly, and shared my creations with friends. Before long, people started reaching out and asking if I would take orders. What started as a personal project quickly turned into something more—a way to channel my creativity while bringing joy to others through delicious cakes. I absolutely love what I do, and I’m so grateful for the opportunity to make special occasions even sweeter!”

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I love creating unique, one-of-a-kind cakes that are full of detail, texture, and inviting color palettes. My designs are often inspired by botanical and bohemian elements, which give my cakes a distinctive, artistic touch. While I keep up with current cake trends, I always aim to put my own spin on everything so my work is uniquely identifiable.
Getting to where I am today has taken countless hours of practice—especially when it comes to intricate piping and detailed techniques. It wasn’t always easy, but every challenge has been worth it because it has allowed me to refine my craft and bring my creative vision to life. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that patience and persistence are key.
More than anything, I want the world to know that my cakes aren’t just desserts—they’re edible works of art, made with passion and care. It brings me so much joy to create something truly special for my clients, and I’m grateful for every opportunity to be a small part of people’s big celebrations in life.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend were visiting, I’d definitely take them to Evergreen—it’s one of my favorite places for a getaway! We’d stay in a cozy cabin by Bear Creek, where we could soak in the peaceful atmosphere and beautiful scenery. A perfect day would start with coffee from a local café, followed by a relaxing facial at the spa. We’d then head out for a scenic hike to take in the breathtaking mountain views.
Of course, no trip would be complete without exploring Evergreen’s charming shops, where we could browse unique finds from local artists. We’d also make time to visit some fantastic bakeries and breweries to enjoy delicious treats and drinks.
Another must-do on the itinerary would be a trail ride at Platte Valley Ranch. I try to go horseback riding there at least once a year with my kids, and it’s always such a special experience. If we could squeeze that in during the week, it would definitely be the perfect adventure to round out the trip!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d love to give a big shoutout to my family, especially my husband. He has been my biggest supporter throughout this journey, always patient and understanding when my time is consumed with baking and decorating. On the rare occasions when I’ve faced the stress of a difficult customer, he’s been there with unwavering emotional support. He has also stepped in to help in very practical ways—whether it’s transporting and delivering large cakes that I couldn’t handle on my own or simply cheering me on every step of the way. I truly couldn’t do this without him!
