We had the good fortune of connecting with Ranae Call and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ranae, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
The habit that helped me succeed the most is leaving things better than I found them, Whether I am in nature, the city, on-the-job, or just out with friends. I never separate myself from my environment, because I am part of the environment. Sometimes, this means setting aside time in my week to do litter control or help a neighbor with landscaping. I never consider my actions to be wasted, I know that showing up and putting in the work will change my community for the better.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am thrilled to have built a company that provides services the community needs. What initially began as a side-gig quickly bustled into a USDA-backed business. After transporting for a few families, word of mouth recommendations pushed me to open up an LLC and start operating full-time in Northern Colorado. I combined my Bachelor’s degrees with my love for animals and PawsClawsScales Transport was born in October of 2021. After finishing my Cultural Anthropology degree and my Sociology degree, I tried and tried to get a career working with animals to further my experience. Unfortunately and understandably, I did not have the experience to nail down a job. I would not have started my business, I would not be working in a veterinary clinic. I started my business with an end goal of working with animals. I tried my hand in shelter medicine and also in emergency medicine, but general practice is where I flourish. I feel that I had to forge my own path, and I’m thankful it worked out for me and that I never gave up.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Fort Collins is just absolutely stellar. If I had a friend over, I would take them all over town.

Any breakfast place in Fort Collins is yummy, but I really love The Butterfly Cafe. The little historic building serves up food with BIG flavor. We would head down to the Bellvue-Watson Fish Hatchery for an afternoon on the water. The views are mountainous and there is a flowing river with shade and trees for hammocks. After that, I would want them to experience The Comedy Fort. It is one of the nations rising comedy clubs, and you’re certain to have a good time.

I came to Fort Collins from Denver, and would never go back!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My wonderful wife has been my rock in not only my entrepreneurial endeavors but also my schooling, my adult life, and as a co-owner of our lively four cats.

I want to shout-out my wonderful clinic team at The Meadows Veterinary Center in Windsor, CO. They showed me what it meant to work at a veterinary clinic you can be proud of.

Finally, the Fostering Success group at Colorado State University for giving me a place of belonging as a student with estranged parents.
