We had the good fortune of connecting with Reed Pimental Kaitlyn Sands and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Reed Pimental, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My first thoughts when creating Buckin’ Nuts were how much I love boiled peanuts and how I must find a way to have them in Denver! However, since then, it has been a wave of creativity from building a brand that’s fun, unique, and exciting to building products that are mind blowing and flavorful. The process of us both becoming a business owners has been pretty remarkable. We always knew it would be difficult (as most new things are), but we have learned more about life and ourselves then we could have imagined. We get to connect with people through Buckin Nuts!

Our thought process behind starting the business was simple – creating boiled peanuts that reminded us of home. We thought it would be a side gig, however we bought 1800 pounds of nuts on our first run, so I knew we had to find ways to sell these nuts!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets us apart from others is that we look at the snack industry as a work in progress . We see creative, fun, and vibrant in what an individual can snack on a daily basis. We are willing to explore our flavors and the way things could be, like diving in deep with our citrus sweet-tart fried peanut, or our dessert nut butter, or our comforting southern treats. We look to add unique flavor where ever we see fit. We want to show the world how bodacious peanuts actually are from naturally sustainable to a soil replenishing product. We go nuts over our Buckin Nuts! Peanuts are American made and are resistant. Peanuts have low carbon footprint. What sets us apart is simple, where a world sees an ordinary peanut we see the world’s most water efficient nut on the planet. Our creative kitchen is a spark to our madness, which makes us Buckin’ Nuts.

We could talk on and on about this business and what really crunches our nuts, but come check us out in the real world!

New things are never easy and it is for that reason you focus on the creative side, the happy moments, and the personal development. Owning a business is a great feeling that produces some pretty raw and real moments. I hope everyone will have the heart to pursue a business, write a book, take a class, or invent a job in the manner. Of personal development. You never stop learning outside of college its a myth!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them to Red Rocks for the history, and paint a picture of badass nights and all the greats. I would take them to a besutiful green hike to show them how small we are in a world meant for exploration. I would take them to any sporting event particularly baseball to catch a beer and the dream of a fly ball! I would show them the art district and beautiful it is when expression is written on the wall for people to enjoy. I would take them to breweries for the chill vibe and energy that comes with it. I would do all sorts of things for this city is infinite!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Reeds answer – I would like to give a shout out to God for giving me the courage to pursue my greatest joys in life. He is number one. My business partner and soon to be wife Kaitlyn Sands for believing in our nut business and keeping us focused for the road ahead. Both our family and friends for putting up with all our nutty conversations. We love and cannot thank them enough. Lastly our customers – it is because of you we get to jump and down and scream Buckin Nuts once a day! The connection between consumer and producer are so important as we move forward to a more connected economy! So we thank our customers and friends for sharing in our nutty creations.
