We had the good fortune of connecting with Reyna Vital and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Reyna, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think taking risks is super important for both personal and professional growth. For example, I decided to leave my corporate sales job of nearly 10 years to dive into freelancing, focusing on Social Media & Marketing with a focus on Brand Management. I knew stepping away from a stable career with a great salary and benefits would impact my husband’s and my financial goals.
Quitting my corporate job has been the biggest risk I’ve probably taken, but it’s also been the most rewarding. Embracing the uncertainty of freelancing has brought back my happiness and reignited my passion for creativity. This change has allowed me to do work that excites me and has given me the flexibility to manage my time and focus on what really matters in life.
Becoming a freelancer has opened up many opportunities and helped me grow in ways I never imagined. It’s taught me resilience, self-discipline, and the importance of following your passion. Through this career journey, I’ve learned that sometimes the biggest risks can lead to the greatest rewards, shaping us into more fulfilled and motivated people.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
A BFA in Graphic Design from Schreiner University in 2012 launched an unusual career adventure. While a “traditional” design role wasn’t immediately in sight, my first job at an OfficeMax printshop played a surprisingly significant role. While the glamour may not have been there, it sparked a passion for client interaction and ignited a curiosity for the world of marketing and advertising.
Fueled by a desire for adventure, I quit my OfficeMax job and spent a year exploring Portland before an unexpected opportunity arose: joining the crew on a catamaran in Ketchikan, Alaska. Every day was a beautiful experience, from witnessing majestic humpback whales to exploring the ancient Tlingit pictographs hidden amongst the breathtaking Misty Fjords.
After returning to Texas in 2014, I transitioned into the corporate realm with a tech sales role. Though I explored content creation and social media, the corporate environment never fully felt like the right fit. However, the dream of pursuing marketing remained a constant flame. Taking ownership of my career path became important. I embraced the power of self-advocacy, and with it, the courage to pursue freelancing in Social Media & Marketing with a focus in Content and Brand Management. Not only did this open doors for me, it also landed me my very first client.
My path may not have been linear, but I take pride in my relentless interest in learning and adapting. Freelancing offers exciting challenges and perfectly aligns with my desire for continuous growth within the field of marketing and advertising. To anyone feeling lost, don’t give up. Seek out a career coach, a mentor, or friends who believe in you. Remember, you are the driver of your own life and decisions. Keep chasing your dreams!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

To Drink:
1. My Boy Tony – Cool, hip, neighborhood bar in tennyson
2. The High Lonesome – another cool neighborhood bar

Hangout / Sightseeing
1. any concert at Red Rocks
2. Chautauqua Park in Boulder
3. Paint Mines or Great Sand Dunes
There’s also never a dull moment driving to the mountains to watch a sunset. That will always be my favorite thing to do over anything!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Over the last two years, I’ve gone through significant changes, including quitting my corporate sales job, starting my freelancing career, and improving my mental health while managing a chronic hormone condition. It’s been a challenging time, but I’m grateful for what I have accomplished.
My therapist, Eve, has been instrumental in helping me navigate these challenges, teaching me the importance of setting boundaries and prioritizing my well-being. The Beam Life community and my mentor, Kaitlin Anthony. Kaitlin helped me clarify my vision and introduced me to a community of like-minded women who’ve become a source of strength and inspiration.
And HUGE shoutout to my best friend and husband for his unconditional love. From our move from Austin, Texas, to Denver, Colorado, and adopting our dog, his support has been vital in this journey of ours.
Without the encouragement and love from these incredible humans, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
