We had the good fortune of connecting with Riley Cameron Alexander and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Riley Cameron, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
If you always play things safe and avoid the risks, I feel like you are also passing up opportunities that have great potential. By not always being worried about making a profit and being more focused on building my business, I have built amazing relationships with my clients. I’ve always maintained another job to keep following my passion, and the more I follow my art, the less necessary my other jobs become. The payoff typically matches the risk, but you have to be ready for it to not work out, too.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
It’s very easy to become swept away in the art and for people to forget that you are also running a business and feel that just because the job is fun, it can’t really be work. I’m the most excited about continuously making progress with that balance and on making the experience even more enjoyable for everyone–those always turn out the best shoots, too!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite hangout in Loveland is East End Ale House, so I would make sure to hit that spot more than once to get their different nightly specials and special events! Within Fort Collins, I’d make sure we hit Dazbog for a Snickerdoodle before driving up into the Rockies via the Horsetooth Reservoir way. From there, the scenic route through the mountains and down through to Denver is every ounce of the meaning in the word “majestic.” Base Camp is a great spot to stop and camp along the way. Once the camping adventure time is over, a return to Fort Collins’s Old Town (their downtown) adds the perfect urban ending to a rural week.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to my parents, Leigh & Randy. They have always supported my photography both as an art and as a means to make a living. My first DSLR camera was an early graduation gift and a grand sign of their faith in what I was setting off to do. They instilled the necessity to persevere in me, and I don’t think you can survive in art without that resilience.
