We had the good fortune of connecting with Rusanda Panfili and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rusanda, what do you attribute your success to?
Discipline and professionalism. Staying disciplined and professional played a huge role in my life – and since i was 6 years old, i had to dedicate all my time to learning and mastering how to play the violin on a high level. This brought a constant dedication in my life that i apply in most of the things i do. Another very important aspect which is bringing me further in my career is always finding ways to grow and develop further skills.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
some of the most vivid memories from my childhood were me performing in front of my mirror, the kids in my class or just always dancing or singing. I feel like music was in my life even before i could be aware of it. Becoming a professional musician is not easy.
It took a lot of hard work, sacrifices and many tears. The pain of separation from my family when i went to study to Austria when i was only 11 years old, dealing with physical pain after practice sessions of 10,12 hours a day and of course many moments of disappointment and failure.
I had to overcome so much that it really made me respect this profession and i never take any moment of success for granted.
I learned how to listen to my heart, to what i want to do, and stay faithful to myself in the first place – because the lesson i learned the hard way was to never try to be someone else or compare myself to others. Every journey is different, and it only matters how you create your story and achieve your personal goals.
Luckily, i got confirmation that being a musician is my calling and my purpose. Music can do so much good and create positivity in the world and as artists we also gain a stronger voice to actually contribute to a better world.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Vienna is an incredible, historical city with gorgeous spots to visit. I would definitely go the Musikverein or the Konzerthaus for a classical, symphonic concert, or to the State Opera which offers magical moments and the Museums quarter can fill your mind with inspiration.
Simply going for a walk through the city center is beautiful, enjoying a Viennese Melange and Apple Strudel in one of the oldest cafes in town like “Cafe Central” or experiencing the Imperial Gardens of the Schönbrunn Palast.
Maybe I’m a little old school but i really love the calm and aristocratic vibe of this city.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My Family, but especially my mom, who fought for me to become a musician when not many thought it’s a career worth pursuing. Many people in my life have supported and guided me and i’m extremely grateful but to mention a few are my teacher, Alexander Arenkow for giving me so much knowledge and guiding me in the most important time in my career, my long term mentor, Ernst Haupt-Stummer for believing in my talent and supporting the difficult transition when i arrived in Austria for my studies, Hans Zimmer for opening magical doors to a musical world i never thought i would have access to and last but not least, my fiancé who probably believes in me more than i do and empowers me to follow my heart and pursue my dreams.
