We had the good fortune of connecting with Robert Heckel and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Robert, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process for starting this business was simple. I wanted to create a location that everyone was attracted to and created a community feel around music art and cocktails. I am more of a creative person so the design was the fun part. We own other businesses and this was just something I always wanted to create and got the opportunity to do so.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I guess most of the things I do in life are around design and art. I liked body work and painting because it was like sculpting and color, I loved to build and watch my creating come to life from paper to physical. I paint abstract on occasion as well as hire local artist to do a lot of things. I put art of some kind into everything I do. I just love to create things.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We live in a great part of the world the Black Hills of South Dakota, I would take them to the main spots like Crazy Horse, Mt Rushmore, Custer State Park, Sturgis, And Deadwood to name a few. We also have great art shops around the area with amazing local artist.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Ha, I guess overall I have always been a driven person. However my process is all over the place. I have done many things from being in the Marines as a combat engineer and a Pilot in the Army National Guard, I have done body and paint work when I was younger to owning a construction company. We are also in the Vacation Rental business as well. I guess I would give credit to everyone around me who has an inspiring story because that is what gives me ideas and drive to do things. Once I learn something completely I tend to get bored and move on the the next subject of interest in my life and am usually consumed by it until I succeed. Sometime I feel like its a curse Ha. My wife is the one who keeps me on somewhat of a track without going overboard. I have read a lot of books more so in the self help section and business. I have never had and interest in Reading Fiction, It has to be something of a real topic that can better my life. Rich Dad Poor dad was a good read and somewhat relevant today. However there are many inspiring business leaders who have produces great content to push me in the right direction.
