We had the good fortune of connecting with Tina Leix and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tina, how did you come up with the idea for your business?

2019 was an emotional year, to say the least. My mom lost her battle with cancer, and two months later, I gave birth to our first son, Lucas. I was broken; my world was shattered. But, my mom’s strength was instilled in me and her inspiration guided my sadness into creativity. Suddenly, the rungs of the corporate ladder I was climbing seemed unimportant. Entrepreneurship and owning my own business was the way forward.

I’ve always had a love for wreaths. To me, they’re not just for the holidays, but I’ve always had a difficult time finding the right one. One that’s well made, with special touches. This inspired me to begin designing my own wreaths and faux florals and launch Tina Leix Floral, Wreath and Home Co., LLC in 2020.

This journey has led to inner healing and positive mental health. The symbolism of wreaths dates back to Ancient Greece, where they represented a circle of eternal life. My mom loved crafting, not necessarily wreaths, but she left a beautiful mark on everything she touched. Hopping off the corporate ladder and starting a wreath business surely had to be sign. I’m so happy I can finally build my company and bring happiness to front doors, indoors and my favorite, She Sheds!

My first wreath is called “The Tina Marie” named after the strongest woman I’ve ever known, my mom. I know my Mom is proud of me. My inspiration for this wreath comes from her impeccable style, and her love for King Proteas, Peonies succulents & lush greenery. Cheers Mama!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My parents separated when I was 13 years old. My Mom was so tough, a single mother of THREE kids! My husband leaves me for 5 days for a business trip and it is so hard! I knew at the age of 13 that I wanted to succeed regardless of my situation so my journey began. I became CPR certified and made flyers for my new business ‘Tiny Tots Babysitting’ making $6/hr, oh how times have changed. I have also always been passionate about flowers & gardening so I picked up a job at the local Farmer’s market on the weekends for $8/hr. By the time I was fifteen years old I had $13,000 in my bank account, I’m a saver. When I was 15, a couple months away from the big 16, I wandered over to Colorado College in Colorado Springs, CO and came across their food service operation. I asked for a manager and the Director of Catering for the college, Kim Peterson greeted me. I started working at Colorado College and my journey in the hospitality industry began. Long story short I went to college, graduated in 2006, dabbled in sales…which I love! I love people… Got offered a position to be the Director of Catering at Colorado College for a billion dollar company, Bon Appetit Management Co. and I took it! Was soon promoted to General Manager of Regis University in Denver and opened that account and ran it for 11 years. I managed 100+ employees on a daily basis and 8 managers. It was A LOT and such a challenge but so much fun ! I learned SO much. When I became pregnant in 2018 I decided it was time to take some time off. Afterall, I had been working so hard since I was a kid. I missed out on so many things kids got to enjoy but I made up for those ‘things’ in other ways. Like paying for my own college education and graduating with not a cent of debt, buying my first car with no help, purchasing my very own home at the age of 21. As you know by now my Mom passed away in 2019 after a 13 year long cancer battle. I had never experienced depression and sadness like I did then. I was B-R-O-K-E-N. I knew I needed to do something about it. I couldn’t sit around with a newborn baby and feel sorry for myself. I woke up one morning at 1am… laid there for hours, my mind was churning. I had always wanted to own my own company, I just didn’t know what I wanted to do. My Mom was incredibly crafty and talented. She didn’t go to school to be an interior designer but you would think she had, and she was thrifty-she ‘decorated on a dime’. So I knew I wanted to do something that involved being crafty and make something she would love. She had wreaths for every holiday and season but always complained about them not being “good enough” they fell apart, or lasted only one season; being as thrifty as she was that drove her nuts! Sooooooo… that is the day Tina Leix Floral, Wreath and Home CO. LLC was started in my head. With every design and each wreath or floral piece I make for someone… I know she is with me and she is so proud of me. If only she could be here to hang quality wreaths on her door that lasted ‘a lifetime if taken care of’. It hasn’t been easy, but it’s been worth it!
