We had the good fortune of connecting with Robyn Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Robyn, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I worked for an education technology startup for 3 years and saw how passionate people can make a dream come alive. After working hard to make someone else’s dream flourish I wanted to put that effort in my own dream and passions. My thought process to starting my business was a found something unique in the art world where I could tell my story and I want to share my pieces of peace with everyone that wants to see.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Pour paint is not a new form of art but one that is gaining popularity. It is using acrylic paint that is more fluid and typically is used in abstract art. I started painting as a way to relax and not over think the creative process. After learning different techniques and styles I found a my personal style but still found it hard to differentiate myself from other pour painters. One day when painting I made a mistake and wanted to cover it so decided to spray paint a women’s face and cover it in glitter to make it pop! All of the work that I created faces with sold at every event so at that point I knew I found something unique. Being able to create images within my abstract art is what sets me apart. To date I am most proud to have a piece of my artwork in the Marcus Garvey Culture Center at the University of Northern Colorado because as a proud alumni the center was a safe space in a new world. I still feel like I am working towards mastery as an artist and have not “made it professionally “. I am in the process of building my resume and showing my work. I feel like I have stepped in the door as a professional artist but have a long road ahead! What I want the world to know about Robyn is she is a never ending story that has many chapter coming and Jera. Miah Arts is a legacy to honor Jeremiah Essien the artist that inspired me to be true to my heart and live my life to the fullest.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite place is Georgetown! I live to walk the small town and get my favorite ice cream sour cream poppyseed from Georgetown Ice cream and take in the Beautiful views of Guanella pass.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My partner Rob who not only bought me my first paints but has supported and helped me reach beyond my dreams. My granny Hope who was my first investor in my business! She has always supported me and showed me what is possible. My parents because without them I would not be here! My family and friends for being the encouraging voices and cheerleaders!
