We had the good fortune of connecting with Ryan Borgman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ryan, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
Risk taking is the number one reason I am where I am today in business and personally. Being willing to step out of my comfort zone, I achieved growth that wouldn’t have been possible otherwise. It took me years to realize that if I faced my fears head on, I could break through any beariers that stood in my way. For me, not thinking about risk too much is the key. I knew I had talent in my career but overthinking would keep me from my goals. I learned that taking risks and making mistakes has been the best way to learn and become successful.
What should our readers know about your business?
The name of my company is Playtoe Media. A video production company in Denver, Colorado. I have over 35 years of shooting and editing experience with both national and local television productions. I been a videographer and editor for reality-based television shows, corporate videos, broadcast commercials, news/sports and website videos. My work has appeared on HGTV, TLC, Cooking Channel, Travel Channel, Discovery Channel, Destination America, The Weather Channel, Veria, Dr. Phil Show, ESPN, FOX, NBC, ABC, PBS, The CW, Comcast SportsNet, CGTN, CNN, CGTN and many more. I am also a certified Part 107 Drone Pilot.
I feel like one of biggest reasons for my success in business is that I deliver 5 star service to all my clients. Growing up I was a mobile DJ and the company’s philosophy was to deliver top notch customer service much like a high end hotel chain does. That really stuck with me. I found that if I worked hard and made my clients happy that they would keep calling me back. I know that sounds basic but a lot of people just don’t deliver quality customer service. Having a good, positive attitude goes a long way. I truly love what I do. Even if I won the lottery, I would still be a videographer/editor. My philosophy is to work hard, be brave, take chances and enjoy the ride.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love living in Denver. For someone coming into town I would definitely take them downtown to El Five in the evening with a view of the city and enjoy their Paella. I have always enjoyed the food and vibe there. Then I would take them to a Rockies game in the evening. Even though the team isn’t good, the vibe at Coors field is magical. Then it’s time to head to the mountains. Make a stop in Vail then stay the weekend in Beaver Creek at the Ritz-Carlton. Heaven on Earth!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
During my life, two men significantly influenced me and shaped my path. My life could have ended up very differently if I chose the wrong direction. As a teenager, Keith Rich entered my life as a stepfather. He came at the right time in a challenging part of a teenage boys life. His unconditional love, patience and humor taught me how to live life through LOVE. Throughout my life I saw him as a living angel. Just his presence would make my soul smile. Then in my late 20’s I met a wonderful man – Kevin Scofield. He hired me as a news videographer at a television station in Denver, CO. There are people in your life that come around at the right time and Kevin was definitely one of them. My career was really starting to take off and Kevin was there to encourage, push, laugh and direct me in the right direction. He encouraged me to take risks and ALWAYS had my back no matter what. In a way he was a second father to me. I don’t think he ever knew that. Both men arrived at crucial moments, providing the love and support I needed to thrive.
