We had the good fortune of connecting with Sabrina Sandberg and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sabrina, what are you inspired by?
Like many artists I am inspired by so many things in our everyday life. I find myself continually inspired by the other creatives in Denver. We have a really unique group of people here who love fashion and to create for fun, which in my opinion makes us all better artists. The creativity that flows through our shared indoor and outdoor spaces keeps me on my toes and always looking for new ways to create. I am so grateful that through the Denver Photo Collective I have found many like minded artists to collaborate with and I’m lucky enough to call them friends.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My portrait work has allowed me to capture families, newborns, brands, fashion and other fun and exciting genres. I am not just there to click the trigger. What sets me apart is that my goal is always to truly capture someone’s essence. If I can capture someones true spirit in a photo then it feels like I’ve done what I came to do. The greatest compliment I receive as a photographer is when parents emotionally tell me how perfectly I was able to capture their kiddos spirit. To me thats what documenting this life is all about. We can all take pictures of the things that happen around us, but when you can look back at a photo and feel something its magical. My love for this has driven me to continue to educate myself and work to hone my craft. It has not been an easy journey but I am truly grateful for all the road bumps along the way because that is when I have learned my greatest lessons. I decided early on that if I continued to focus on my art and creating things that make me happy, I would eventually be able to build my business to where I wanted it to be and to do it in an authentic way. My brand is called Happy Hearts Photography because that is my ultimate mission… for my photos to make my clients hearts happy!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
As a photographer we are always looking to find cool and unique spots so dreaming up a perfect trip is fun. I would plan out our week to visit different areas each day because Colorado has so much to offer. First I would spend the Day in Centennial showing off some of the areas I grew up in and I would stop at Ocean Prime for dinner and drinks because it’s my favorite. The next day we would head downtown Denver to Union Station. We would definitely need a milkshake from Milkbox, followed by lunch at Venice Restaurant. Finish the night with dinner and movie on the 16th street mall. Next I would spend a day in Boulder and visit my favorite flower farm. There are so many great spots to eat in Boulder it would be hard to pick! Once we explored the town I would end the day with a hike at Chautauqua and sunset up at Lost Gulch Lookout because you cannot beat the view. Vail and Telluride would also be on the list of destinations depending on the season as they are both so spectacular. I would spend a day in Fort Collins because that is where I went to college and it truly is the best town with the best people. We would have to stop at the Rio for a margarita and find the hottest new dinner spot in old town. Lastly I would spend the day in Morrison exploring Red Rocks and all the surrounding areas. We would end the night with dinner and drinks at Viale resaturant which is one of my favorite Italian spots. I always say Colorado has everything but an ocean so you really can never run out of fun things to do here!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I started educating myself about photography when I joined Clickin Moms many years back. This community was a huge resource and eventually led to my first photography conference which really opened my eyes to how many amazing educators were out there. I had tremendous editing growth when I attended Tessa Kozlowski-Sanchez’s In Bloom retreat. Another amazing mentor that has had a large impact on my photography journey is Jonny Edwards. He really taught me about honoring the person in front of you lens and how to shape light. And I of course have to shoutout my family as well for all their support during this journey!
