Meet Sage Harper | Co-Founder Mindful Living

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sage Harper and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sage, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I wanted to build a home with sustainable options and realized quickly that there aren’t many options for urban consumers outside of solar. Don’t get me wrong, there are many builders and product companies making a difference, but you’ll quickly find that there may be one sustainable builder within a given state, or the product you want to add is only offered by the MFR and they have to fly across the country to install it. It’s a bit of an urban sustainable desert and I saw the gap for typical urban consumers to add mindful solutions to their daily lives. Most U.S. residents feel that they need to homestead to go sustainable. We need a brand to tie it all together, educate, and elevate. That’s Mindful Living.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Imagine visiting a living science center where students of all ages can experience and learn about the future of sustainable living. We’re teaming up with universities to build closed-loop sustainable campuses, around the planet, where students can learn, research, integrate, test, and solve real-world problems.
Our Mindful Living Campuses (MLCs) run on a decenteralized closed-loop plug-and-play backbone, so students and collaborators can learn, test and evaluate multiple integrated themed solutions at once. Not only will we act as a hub for integrated innovation, our students will build and deploy decenteralized solutions that help global disaster recovery. The future of hardened sustainable communities will spawn from our campuses.
From natural disasters to displaced immigrants, our vision is to build a global network of MLCs that will work together to solve real-world problems.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When we have a Mindful Living Campus built, it’ll be a tour of the campus.
We’ll enter the campus and start with the industrial items: recycling center, maker center, water treatment, waste treatment, campus facility switching backbone,
We’ll then walk the campus, where we can enjoy the biophilic design, experiential learning exhibits, varying farming projects, housing projects, classrooms, and we’ll end the tour at our community center, where we’ll have retail, restaurants, work areas, innovation center, and our farmers market.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d love to shout out Mel Litter. She’s the other co-founder. Mel has one of those minds that works a thousand miles a minute so she’s amazing at bouncing ideas and brainstorming alternatives. I’m proud of the work we’ve done together and I’m excited for things to come.
