We had the good fortune of connecting with Cristina Schutz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cristina, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?

After years of sitting behind a desk, stuck in a world where someone else was deciding how much money I could make and the times they required me to be present, I decided this isn’t the life I wanted. I realized that I did not want to hit the glass ceiling and max out before I even had a chance, I needed an environment where this was dependent on one thing, me.

I quickly realized that this was real estate. An industry, that I had wanted to get into my entire life. However, was too nervous to ever make the leap. After conversations and a bit of research I went for it. I wanted to know that the path I was in my hands; everything from the financial success, challenges, hours, energy, mission & values- I was finally in charge of it all.

After being in real estate for about 6 months a colleague and I saw the benefits of creating a team focused on new agents. The industry was appealing to many but so few actually were successful long-term. We want to change this. From the team quickly emerged our own brokerage. Did we have it all figured out? No. Do we now? No. But frankly it works better this way. We have taken advice and components that are tried and true but have also created the foundation and systems that fit us and the agents we bring aboard. As the brokerage is in its early stages of success, we have learned to pivot quickly, be more intentional with our systems and processes ensuring that they are repeatable and profitable. I think the biggest lesson I have learned from starting my own business, is that I must learn to fail forward fast. That truly the lessons are in the advierties we face. We hear that all the time, however, for me, it is a lesson I continue to learn.

In addition, to the brokerage, my own real esate production I started a podcast, Full Offense, as well. I wanted a place, an outlet for things that needed said. OR at least that I feel needed said. It too, is a work-in-progess, but thats the joy in life. The Journey, not the destination.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I Co-Own a Real Estate Brokerage, Tailor & Co. Realty Group, our mission is to build lifelong trusting relationships with our clients as we embark side-by-side on their real estate journey We strive to create an environment in which our clients are confident, well-informed, and receive a tailored approach to their real estate goals.

I am thrilled to have embarked on this journey with my business partner Jeremy Woods. It hasn’t been easy but it is worth it. We initially envisioned a team but quickly formed our own brokerage. We found ourselves wanting more autonomy and freedom to positively impact the agents and communities we serve. We have had a few hiccups as a new brokerage but continue to seek knowledge and growth. We have learned to slow down and take a step back to ensure the direction we are headed is in alignment with ourselves and our goals.

We are grounded in our passion to inspire a lasting impact through real estate. With our industry expertise, solution-based approach, and integrity we pursue excellence with every transaction. We built this to not be just like everyone else, but to embrace a culture of partnership and success for ourselves, our agents, and our clients.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I have been in Colorado since I was a baby but left to explore the east coast for a few years but ultimately Denver is home and for so many good reasons. When friends come to visit there are a few places that are a must-see! Lowry Beer Garden, good food, good drinks all-around my favorite. We’d need to hit a couple of brunch spots like; HashTAG, or Social Bacon House (Highlands location). Local coffee shops are my favorite to work at or hang out; Corvus is a must! Garden of the Gods, Red Rocks concert, a few breweries such as, Dry Dock, Comrades, Bull & Bush will all be on the list. We are so fortunate to live here and I like to make sure others see the value as well. Plus, no better tour guide than a real estate agent who sees it all!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people throughout my life that have contributed to my success, that I will forever be grateful for. Many who continue to support and push me today. A dear friend and entrepreneur, Emily, was the first person to see the passion in me and encouraged me to go after the dream of being a real estate agent. She put me in front of her husband who is in the industry which ultimately lead to my leap. Emily gives me a space to be authentic, grow and be vulnerable.

The other big contributor to my ongoing success is my business partner, Jeremy! He is my backbone, he knows how to cheer me on and challenge me in critical moments. Together, we dream big and continue to accomplish more than we ever thought possible. We may disagree and challenge each other at times, but more often than not end on the same page with the determination to be successful and grow. Together, we continue to aim high for our future and the agents within our brokerage. We love what we do, and are fortunate to say so.

We all need people like these two in your life, both professionally and personally.
