We had the good fortune of connecting with Sam Reid and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sam, how do you think about risk?
I was raised in a very financially conservative family, so taking a financial risk was never encouraged. I was taught to take the sure thing, hold onto your money, sacrifice as necessary and prepare for the worst. This way of living kept me moving forward ever so slowly, but I honestly felt so unfulfilled. I was really struggling trying to build my business while I worked a full time job that required a lot of my energy. I came from teaching elementary school, so there was a lot of patience, love, and constantly reevaluating how I did my job happening every day, which was exhausting, but I had a steady paycheck. Over about 3 years, I really realized that the steady mediocre paycheck was not worth the emotional, mental and energetic investment I was putting into my job. The kids were the only thing keeping me going, and after the pandemic the pressure to close gaps with kids missed learning was sucking all the joy out of the job for me. My business was barely making any money at the time, but I knew I needed to take a risk on myself if I truly wanted to find joy in my life again. I wanted to be with my own children more. I wanted to sit down at the dinner table each night and have fulfilling conversations instead of being so exhausted and burnt out that I just wanted to fall asleep on my plate. I was constantly having to get help to cover all the things I missed out on by going to work all day, and I didn’t want to miss another special school event because I was hosting my own. Taking risks has allowed me to not only find so much joy and freedom in my life, but it has allowed me to turn my business from hobby to full time career. It’s not always easy (like almost never), but it’s worth the uncertainty. I knew when I was in education what I was going to get. I was going to get the joy of kids, but also very little room for financial growth, a lot of fear and pressure to make up for the academic loss over the pandemic, secondary trauma and the emotional burden of loving kids who have struggled, and the inability to even put my own children on the bus each morning because I had to be at work. The only thing I risked when I left my career was a steady paycheck, but in return I opened myself up to limitless potential, time with my kids, and so much peace even in the uncertainty.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am a wealth expansion coach, so my focus is helping people create more wealth in their life. Wealth is often associated with money, but it’s so much more than that. Our desire for more money is often not about money at all. When we want money to buy a house, it’s not necessarily the money that we desire, but the house because we are searching for safety, security and comfort. If we want more money for vacations, it’s not money we desire, but adventure, relaxation and freedom. I help people generate more wealth in their life, which includes money in most cases, but also wealth in many forms even when money is scarce. It’s common for people to buy books, hire coaches, or invest in trainings that give them the strategy to build more wealth in a financial sense, and I definitely help people do that, but I also focus on the energetics of wealth and our alignment with it. My business began when I was at my lowest, seeking guidance and healing from overwhelm and debilitating anxiety. I had spoken to medical professionals who wouldn’t help me because I “seemed like I was doing fine.” In reality I was just very good at masking my struggles and living my daily life. My health was declining, I was turning down opportunities because I couldn’t handle them, and my marriage was on the back burner while we put our heads down to survive. I had always been interested in spiritual work, but only as a participant. In January of 2019, I took a Reiki certification class to learn this beautiful ancient healing modality simply to practice on myself, and quickly realized the impact I could have sharing this work with other people too. Over the next 3 years, I slowly built out my spiritual business with Reiki healing, Akashic records readings, house cleansing and psychic readings. I have 8 certifications hanging on my wall, but for some reason I still felt called to do more. I hired business coaches, read as many books as I could, and continued to practice and expand my skills until my business evolved into the life changing coaching business it is now. I have helped clients generate tens of thousands of dollars, quit their jobs and build a business, heal generational wounds that have held them back, and gain immeasurable confidence to live a life that is full of abundance. I combine science, spirituality and strategy so that my clients get results faster and in an authentic way so they don’t find themselves burnt out or unfulfilled. I teach them how to follow their intuition, protect their energy and turn their daydreams into their reality. I hold space for them to feel fear, to fail and to question everything, so they can pick back up and make magic and miracles happen in their life.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Estes Park is our families favorite place to visit in Colorado. Every time we have friends come to town, we visit this gorgeous mountain escape. Of course a trip to the historic Stanley Hotel for lunch, dinner or drink is necessary. I would highly recommend taking a tour where you will learn about the hotels incredible history and hauntings, while getting an opportunity to see parts of the hotels off limits to other visitors. If you’re brave enough, book a room on the 4th floor where the pitter patter of children running down the hall can be heard at night even though there’s nobody there, or get lunch at one of our family favorite restaurants, The Post. We highly recommend the sweatpants salad, the deviled eggs and the chicken thigh fries. If you’re looking for a more cozy home environment, our family loves Valhalla Resort cabin rentals. There are 29 cabins on the property of varying size, with fully stocked kitchens, and a variety of options such as a fire place or a jacuzzi. The quaint downtown area has many shops offering local products, delicious taffy, and vacation souvenirs. You can even take a stroll along the river behind some of the businesses. It’s not uncommon to see a heard of elk, especially during the rut, wandering the streets of Estes Park. Just make sure you respect nature and don’t get too close! Less than an hour and a half from Denver, Estes Park is a must see!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband is my biggest cheerleader. He is the reason I am where I am today. We have been together since I was 19 (I’m almost 36 now), and we have gone through so many challenging things in life together. He spent 6 years in the Marine Corps and was medically retired after being wounded in combat in 2011. I have watched him overcome so many difficult challenges, and he inspires me to be the best version of myself every day, no excuses. Even though I came to him with this crazy vision for my life that didn’t really make sense, he supported me wholeheartedly. He has encouraged me every step of the way to invest in myself, believe in myself and take the risks necessary to live a life I love. There have been many bumps in the road as I’ve built my business, and his loyalty and unwavering faith in me has allowed me to weather every storm. My two girls have also been a huge reason I was able to build this business. I look at them and see my husband and I as children, and although our childhood’s weren’t bad, you always want more for your kids. I want my girls to know they can do or be anything they want to be, so they are the reason I have followed this dream. It can be hard to build a business and take risks when you know you have two little people depending on you, but I am making sure they get a front row seat to making your dreams come true, even when it’s messy. They keep me fighting when it would be easier to give up, and they are so full of love and support for their mama. I am definitely one of the luckiest people around!
