We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah and Oliver Sperin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sarah and Oliver, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
The plane and light is a travel and outdoor blog that contributes to the community and the world in several ways:

1. Inspiring Exploration: By sharing personal experiences, tips, and stories about various travel destinations and outdoor activities, the plane and light hope to inspire readers to explore new places, appreciate nature, and embark on adventures. This can promote tourism, support local economies, and encourage cultural understanding.

2. Environmental Awareness: the plane and light have a pretty good focus on the outdoors that hopes to raise awareness about environmental issues and conservation efforts. It can educate readers about sustainable travel practices, responsible tourism, and ways to protect natural resources.

3. Cultural Exchange and Appreciation: Through cultural insights, local traditions, and interactions with diverse communities, the blog can help break stereotypes, promote tolerance, and celebrate the richness of different cultures around the world.

4. Supporting Local Businesses: the plane and light often has blog posts that highlight local accommodations, restaurants, coffee shops, and tour operators. By showcasing these businesses and sharing recommendations, we hope to drive attention and potential customers, thus supporting local economies and entrepreneurship.

Overall, the plane and light has the potential to contribute to sustainable and responsible travel, cultural exchange, environmental awareness, and supporting local communities, thereby making a positive impact on the community and the world.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I believe what sets us apart from others is that we are a multicultural couple that has a homebase in the USA! And we don’t live a conventional American lifestyle. We are most excited about the future! We have been married for about 2 1/2 years now! And we have been to about 20 countries together, we hope to explore more of the world and share those destinations with all of our readers and followers on social media. Our business came there a natural to us, this was something that I (Sarah) have personally wanted to do before getting married. I originally wanted a podcast, however, I don’t think I have much of my speaking skills to have one now ha ha.

One thing that we do have to overcome is discipline. Writing about our travel experiences, insights, tips, and recommendations. Traveling is fun, but when it’s a job, it can be stressful at times.
We want to show the world, off-the-beaten-path destinations, and budget-friendly adventures.. we went to show our readers that you do not need to live a conventional lifestyle and keep up with the Joneses. Life can get pretty tiring real quick, and we want to show them that life isn’t all about money and status.

Becoming successful in the travel blogging field often requires dedication, hard work, and consistent effort. It may involve building a strong online presence, creating compelling content, engaging with readers and followers, and collaborating with relevant brands or businesses… this for us is the most challenging part! Consistency… so hard.

Lessons learned along the way: staying true to one’s unique voice and perspective. Staying true to who we are.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Denver!! One of our favorite spots! We eloped in Rocky Mountain national Park back in 2021!

Rocky Mountain National Park: go early! Beat the crowds!

Where to stay: Sonesta Denver Downtown – you can ask for the “code “ for the balcony and what GREAT VIEWS!

Dinner: Tokio – best sushi, best customer service, great dessert, and sake. We went every time we have been in Denver and you can’t beat it!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We would love to recognize Rolf Potts and his book on traveling : Vagabonding!!! Such an amazing piece of work to inspire others to take initiative and make that first step.
