We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Kausalik and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sarah, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
Everyone needs and deserves self care and human touch. Massage provides that! It’s the small amount of time someone takes out of their day to get on the table and get the help they need for their body. People that get regular massage tend to move and feel better, and that affects everything including their mood!

In my business I have seen a need especially with the rising costs of everything, for affordable care. I started offering “Pay What You Can Days” to help those that need body care but cannot afford regular industry pricing. It’s amazing to have someone come in and get a massage then see them jump off the table and tell all their friends, family, and social circle how much better they feel.

I have also helped with homeless pop up events. These events were hosted by another person and they pop up all over when and where they see a need. The look in peoples eyes when you offer your chair is priceless. You get to hear about their struggles in life, most will tell you how they became homeless or how they are right on the edge and how no one has looked at them as a human for such a long time. I had the honor of sharing my pop up tent with a gentleman that gave his time to be a barber. One by one people came from all over getting a breakfast burrito, water bottles, backpacks that had been stuffed with hygiene products, a massage and a hair cut. They came in beaten down by the world and left with a glimmer of hope. A few found clothing worthy of job interviews and thanked us for opening the opportunity.

I love seeing people get off my table and express they can move something without pain.. but I also love that look they give you when they get that restorative hope back in their soul. It holds a special place in my heart and makes me feel even more that this is where I am meant to be.

I am now helping to train up others to be in that same spot! I started teaching at one of our local schools and I cannot wait for them to catch that first wave of “this is why we do what we do!”

What should our readers know about your business?
I want people to feel welcome. My office is a safe space for LGBTQIA+ people and I am a Health At Every Size practitioner as well. All bodies are welcome! I am not the typical massage therapist either! I love when people get on my table and talk! We can jam out to any station available on my subscriptions and Im not uptight about cussing. I can definitely do a relaxing massage but I prefer the sessions where we fix whats wrong. I am constantly taking continuing education to learn new modalities and techniques I think will help my clients. My goal, the thing I am passionate about, is having someone get off my table and be able to move their body in ways they couldn’t before and feel better in their skin!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh my! I’m honestly not sure if I have to stick in the city. I would want to take them up to the mountains to go fishing! Le Peeps and Casa Bonita for food and entertainment or down Broadway where all the little shops and eateries exist. My husband would want to drag them to every record store in town theres a really neat one called Twist & Shout downtown, and we also enjoy 2nd & Charles. I have friends that do pop up art shows all around and I’d drag them to those and hopefully 1st Friday. A concert at Fiddlers Green or Red Rocks or maybe take in a movie close to where I grew up at the 88th Drive in. I tend to rely on Denver Free Fun when I am looking for random things to do as well.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
For letting me help heal souls on the street- Amber Dinh For seeing something in me and offering me a teaching position- Dawn Lewis and her crew at Full Circle
For helping me complete each class to become an LMT- my husband Mike and my mom Beth
For offering a space to start Pay What You Can Days- my lovely friend Erin Allen
Honestly every person that has ever crossed my path has helped in some way to get me here. Some hurt you and teach you lessons on how to guard yourself. Others grab your hand and pull you into the most uncomfortable space and show you the universe is yours if you are brave enough to embrace it.
