We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Palmer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sarah, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
As an employee, I was working for other painting contractors and noticed lack of communication was a common theme. I felt scared in the off-season without job security as they all took time off. I never knew when the next job would be. I also witnessed some unethical practices. I couldn’t go home and feel proud of the job knowing corners were cut. I realized if I wanted to change these things I needed to create the environment for myself. I was terrified at first. A client of mine really helped me take the leap by giving me some great advice and tools to get started.

What should our readers know about your business?
Sarah’s Painting specializes in exterior and interior painting. We also offer unique accent designs. Recently, we executed a really cool geometrical design for a master bedroom. It’s one of my favorite aspects of my job – being able to use creativity and bring a client’s vision to life. I’m proud of the success my first year in business has been.
Being able to actually start my own painting company had so many challenges. First, I needed to be able to find a reliable employee with a similar work ethic and attention to detail. The next challenge was getting my name out there and building clientele. I contacted an old coworker from a company I worked for in the past that did quality work and shared the same values. Once he came on board, everything slowly came together. It was really an integral part of creating the brand, as we both brought our experiences as well as learned together.
I’d like the world to know Sarah’s Painting is about passion and quality. We go home at night feeling proud of our work and excited for the next project that comes our way. We truly enjoy transforming homes with paint into a place the client wants to spend all of their time.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’d start the day with a drive to Manitou to play tourist and hit the penny arcade. The Cheyenne Mountain zoo is always a go-to as well. I love showing friends this beautiful zoo built right into the mountains. Another must on the “to-do” list is visiting Pure Bouldering gym. It’s a rock climbing gym dedicated to bouldering consisting of 2 stories, 3 rooms, and tons of different routes to try. The staff is like family and the environment is so welcoming.

Foodwise, for breakfast, I always take my friends to Urban Egg. Best breakfast in town. The staff is super friendly and the food is so fresh! Their quinoa oatmeal is always my go-to. I always end up giving a friend a taste only to have them take it all! For lunch, Poor Richard’s downtown is always a chill setting with a great gift shop attached. It’s a great place for grabbing a warm cup of tea and soup. For dinner, I always like taking friends from out of town to Rasta Pasta. Unique pasta in a really cool setting.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a shout-out to my amazing, supportive wife. She’s been there for me through all the stresses being a business owner brings. She’s helped me with estimates and has even helped me with a few jobs as well. Without her love and support, I don’t think I’d be where I am today.
