We had the good fortune of connecting with Scotty Crow and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Scotty, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I couldn’t find a job working anywhere else where I lived. Living in small town, Sebring, FL, I got met with a idea of being over qualified for the jobs I interviewed for. I guess me having military experience in GIS and a BS in Music Business was too much for that town. So I gave myself a job and am still going strong with Swamp Rats and other artistic endeavors.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a traveling folk musician with Swamp Rats most of the time but I also write and draw my own comic books while taking various freelance art commissions too. There has been a lot of hard work, yes, and over many years but if you’re dedicated and passionate enough you can do most anything. If it weren’t for so many people and possible employers tell me “no” I don’t think I would’ve spent the last decade traveling and playing music across the U.S. The biggest thing I’ve learned is no everything is as scary as it seems. Take some chances, ask some questions and soon you’ll be taking your own reins.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Since this is we’re talking about Colorado and I’ve definitely been that new comer there are a few things we as a band really enjoy. Usually the first place we hit is Garden of the Gods. It’s a great spot to do some hiking especially on a Monday/Tuesday when the crowds have thinned out. You can’t go wrong with any of the Choice City events in and around Laporte so keep your eye peeled for those! We also like to track down different ghost stories or famous people buried where ever we go. One of our favorite spots might be Buffalo Bill Cody’s burial site, its a beautiful drive and hike. But I hear there may be a bit of a dispute that he’s actually buried there! Then our favorite dive bar, Stacy’s 7th Street Station in Pueblo. A little rough around the edges but feels like a home away from home!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Though there’s too many to probably mention, I’ll have to say Blossomin’ Bone, a folk act out of North East Florida. They throw a little fuel on our fire from time to time and deserve all the great things that come to them.
