We had the good fortune of connecting with Seth Mayer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Seth, how do you think about risk?
Taking risks in my personal life and my art has afforded me better health physically and mentally. By lessening my dependence on norms and group think, I was able to take back my health through nutrition and stress reduction, With my art, taking risks allows for mistakes which in turn feels like messages from the universe for which I can utilize those mistakes and create new work I might not have consciously have thought about.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Being a photographer is a way of life. My journey began at the age of 14 when I blew off the cobwebs on my father’s old darkroom equipment. It’s a constant visual search for light, design, and detail which I try to bring to my viewers. My goal is to bring a sense of calm and peace through my images by creating order out of chaos. I once read, “At first, I saw mountains as mountains and rivers as rivers. Then, I saw mountains were not mountains and rivers were not rivers. Finally, I see mountains again as mountains, and rivers again as rivers.” This is always in the back of my mind on my visual journey. My artwork consists of both black & white and color images. I like to utilize several different techniques in my work such as long exposure, painting with light, infrared, texture layering, and composites…..
As an international award-winning photographer, I have received many international awards in the categories of Conceptual, Fine Art, Nudes, Nature, Abstract, Architecture, Landscape, and Portrait. My work has been on display around the world in museums and galleries, corporate offices, and homes of private collectors and was named Hot 100 2022 from Duncan Miller Gallery’s yourdailyphotograph.com along with a Master of Photography degree from the Professional Photographers of America.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The art district on Santa Fe is usually first on my list. If they are here on a first Fri all the more fun. A visit to RHINO art district, Manitou Springs, Old Colorado City are usually places to visit.
If they have never seen a bison the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge is on my list. I have a camper van so hanging out in the van allows us to take as long as we want waiting for the Bison to cross our paths. Colorado has so many beautiful mountain roads taking a drive or two is a must. Rocky Mountain NP ,Great Sand Dunes NP, Garden of the Gods are also on my list.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My wife Paula has made a huge difference in my success in my business and personal life. We are business partners and she is currently a watercolor artist here in Colorado. She was a very successful makeup artist/hair stylist for photography, tv, and video in San Diego CA. and she has been instrumental in the positive health outcomes I have today from medical issues I have had in the past and without her support, most likely I would not be in the positive position I am today.
