We had the good fortune of connecting with Shannon Chalmers and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shannon, what’s your definition for success?
Being happy –

Honestly if you can find the balance between what you’re good at & what makes you happy it will show. It will show in your work, your energy, & people around you will be attracted to it and inspired.

If I can do these 3 things I feel successful.

1. Be Happy…….. Not as easy as it sounds.

2. Make time to have a work life balance…… its tough especially as a business owner.

3. Pay my bills …….. that’s my minimum

Honestly If I have those 3 things, I feel successful.

What should our readers know about your business?
A little about Denver Yoga Social, we host our first class in May of 2021. With the goal to support local businesses by bringing yoga into the community, in addition we donate a portion of our sales right back to local nonprofits in the community. Our goal is that with your yoga practice you can support your local community. We hire local yoga instructors, paying them based on class size & not only a standard rate. This allows the teacher to grow and strive for more! We want to make yoga/wellness more accessible & less intimidating than walking into a yoga studio.

I am incredibly proud of the community we are building! The friendships people are making after class, are truly what makes me light up! I have had many students come to me lately saying “I met my best friend at one of your classes, we do everything together.” I wanted to create somewhere people could share an experience at a local businesses, cool spots & just get social. Making friends as an adult is hard, and after covid……… Denver is full of transplants, I wanted to make a space that was inviting, fun & helped you find people that enjoy the things you enjoy.

This Journey through our first year of business has been HARD! It’s more than just teaching a yoga class, there is too much that happens behind the scenes. We just brought teachers on in May, but all the behind the scenes from website design to striking deals, finding cool new spots…… It’s just been me. It has been a 7am – 7pm – 7days a week kind of commitment. I have learned so much about everything. I had no clue where to start, I grew up in customer service then I worked the restaurant industry starting at 14. I started working as an event bar manager & grew to an event coordinator. Once I found events I found that thing that I was good at! Then I combined it with my passion – yoga & BOOM……. Denver Yoga Social.

I want people to know that Denver Yoga Social is about community – I want people to try new things, support each other in & off the yoga mat. Maybe you Love yoga….. maybe its not your thing. I believe that everyone can take something away from our all levels classes. There are enough ques that you can really make these classes fit your skill level – choose your challenge. Some days your challenge was showing up….. it can be the hardest part. You got this!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
– Jessica Hope – with MKE Yoga Social (not a franchise, or owner of Denver Yoga Social)

She has given me so much inspiration & encouragement to do my own thing. To use the name, make it my own & spread my wings. We spent years teaching, growing, learning from each other – to watch us each grow in our own ways its been a beautiful journey.

– My Parents – Ron & Linda Chalmers

For always being there to support me. With words of encouragement, traveling crossed the country to show up to lend a hand on chaotic weekends, they have always been there to support me & my dreams.

– David Vendetti – Owner of South Boston Yoga & the Yoga Alliance

For being there to answer the phone, give me tips on the business & personal side of yoga. For being open to talk about anything & everything, for making space. You are truly my inspiration as a teacher!
