We had the good fortune of connecting with Shannon Harrington and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shannon, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
My family brings me a tremendous amount of happiness. I have always felt a desire to be a mother, and despite the many challenges that come with parenting, I am grateful every day for the moments I get to share with them. The noise, the laughs, the tears, the everything…it truly does bring me joy and I am the happiest when I am with them.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
One of my passions is sewing. Another is teaching. I decided to combine the two and share my love of sewing with other people in the hopes they may feel empowered to learn to sew and create as well. I started my blog, You Tube channel and Instagram as a way to share how to sew and to help people in their own sewing journeys by providing tutorials, pattern reviews, fabric reviews, and more. When a reader comments on one of my You Tube tutorials or blog posts, letting me know how much it helped them complete their project, I am inspired to create more content. I learned to sew before the internet had all the resources we need at our fingertips and it was quite difficult. I understand how sharp the learning curve can be when you first attempt sewing and I hope that my teaching style can help others in their creative pursuits.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was coming to visit, I would like to show them a little of everything we have to offer in our beautiful state. First, I would want to make sure we take a drive to see some beautiful mountain views or incredibly beautiful landscapes, like Garden of the Gods. I am not one for hiking, rock climbing, or other mountain sports so this is a great way to explore the beauty of Colorado without needing to be an avid outdoor enthusiast. Another part of Colorado I enjoy is all the amazing breweries we have available. The Bristol Brewing Company is a fun atmosphere with lots of food and drink options. It is in a former school and the way they have turned it into a modern pub while keeping some of the school vibe is really fun as a former educator myself. Another day, I might head north to Fort Collins. This cute little town is full of shops and restaurants lining the downtown streets. If kids were in tow, the Museum of Discovery is a gem and perfect to keep kids entertained. Finishing the day at the outdoor patio at Odell Brewing is a great place to sit outside and enjoy the gorgeous sunshine.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people that have inspired me along the way. From the early days of sewing where I would call my mom constantly with questions to the amazing online community of sewists today that are connected through social media. It’s hard to describe just how amazing and supportive the sewing community is in a place that is not known for uplifting and encouraging others – online. When I stumbled upon Instagram and connected with the sewing community I was floored by how much encouragement and fellowship is shared between all these creatives.
