We had the good fortune of connecting with Shaun Beall and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shaun, what is the most important factor behind your success?

The Tactile Audio Furniture brand has been successful because we’ve been lucky enough to build something authentic and very niche. From the very beginning, my approach has been to create designs that I myself truly love and find inspiring. I LOVE the experience of music, and I aspire to create furniture that elevates the listening experience, and hopefully that resonates with other people who share my passion.

Perseverance has been the most important factor behind our business success. Anyone can realize a dream if you truly believe in what you’re creating AND you’re willing to do the work… I mean really put in the WORK! I try to balance ‘winning the day’ with keeping an eye on what’s next. Sometimes you take some punches in the trenches, but if you can see the bigger vision I think it really helps.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

We make original modern audio furniture for music lovers. Our line ranges from record player stands and media consoles to vinyl storage and related decor.

I picked up woodworking about 10 years ago, specifically to make a record cabinet for myself. Like many of our clients, I inherited my parents’ collection of classic rock albums and wanted a cabinet that didn’t exist, so I decided to buy some tools, watch a lot of YouTube, and try building what I had envisioned.

That first build blossomed into a real passion for creating things. I enjoy learning and having agency over the things around me. I cherish the process of translating my imagination into the physical world. Coupling all of that with my love for music is such a natural fit.

Throughout that time, I was working in the corporate grind, and furniture making was still a hobby and side hustle. In 2019, my wife and I decided to give it a go full-time, and we haven’t looked back.

Simply put, we love music as much as our clients. Tactile was initially inspired by our obsession with music – reveling in the rituals of playing music for family and friends, soaking up album cover artwork, and the magic of a new discovery.

A music collection is a profoundly rich and personal roadmap of our life experiences and relationships. We want to create furniture that celebrates our individuality and elevates the experience of enjoying music. Our mission is to design functional audio furniture that makes your music look as good as it sounds.

We exist at this heady cross-section of art and community. It’s magical knowing that we are creating things that bring real joy and connection to people… an extension of the musicians who made the albums that live inside these cabinets and the passionate people who own and covet them. There are so many layers of consciousness and love in what we are doing right now. It’s beautiful watching it all unfold.

Custom audio furniture pieces are also a focus and part of the Tactile Audio Furniture DNA, and it’s a real joy to collaborate with our clients to bring their vision to life through our creative lens. It’s exciting when we’re designing unique pieces around a killer stereo system that works for the room, the gear, and the client’s taste.

Audio furniture is unique in that we are aligning form with more technical considerations like acoustics, vibration isolation, load distribution, and cable management. It’s so gratifying when it all comes together and we spin that first album on one of our pieces.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We have some of the best music venues in the world. I love taking people to see shows at Red Rocks, Dillon Amphitheater, Mission Ballroom, and Cervantes.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
This one is easy – my wife Angie deserves so much credit for any success we’ve seen. Her support is foundational and paramount to everything we are building. She brings a sympathetic ear and unwavering confidence and supports this endeavor and our family in every way imaginable. I absolutely would not have the opportunity to pursue this dream without her, PERIOD. Words will never do justice to just how much I appreciate and rely on Angie. I love her to death.
