We had the good fortune of connecting with Shelby Stratton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shelby, where are you from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
So I’m a lucky one and I was born and raised in Fort Collins, CO and grew up in a health and wellness conscious family. My Mom worked out before getting us out of the house for school and dad worked out after work. We always had home cooked meals and had some sort of activity of movement growing up. I remember spending lots of time outside playing with neighbors and as I got older I played sports and played club volleyball until high school. I also grew up attending CSU Athletics my whole life so sports were in all realms of my life if I wasn’t playing we were watching. But what I loved the most was we never talked about diets or losing weight. It was just something ‘you did’ and was apart of your life. My parent’s led by example and I’m hoping to do the same for my kids.
So when I went to college I got my BS in Health and Exercise Science BUT wasn’t quite sure where that would take me. During college I found hot yoga and fell in love with it. After graduating while working full-time at Starbucks I decided to go through the 200hr Yoga Teacher Training and that’s when all my certifications started over 10 years ago. Fast forward to now, I am working with clients online, privates, small groups, and community based classes. I teach many facets of movement; yoga, functional fitness, Pilates, TRX and a few others. I mainly work with women and also have a good number of clients in Pregnancy and Postpartum stage of life.
So my goal with working with my clients is to meet each one of them where they are and help them reach their goals through mindful movements designed for their body and needs! Nothing is better than seeing a woman find confidence and power in her body through movement and being apart of their journey is such a gift for me.
What should our readers know about your business?
Live Fierce Wellness was created to empower women to live a life they love through interpersonal relationships, fitness, holistic health, and wellness. Currently serving Northern Colorado and online clients. I am a Fitness Instructor with over 10 years in the fitness industry I have a degree in Health and Exercise Science and I am certified to teach Yoga in many styles to include, Hot, Vinyasa, Sculpt, and Restorative. I am also certified in Pilates and PYLA on the reformer and mat. I also am a Pregnancy and Postpartum Athleticism Coach. As a continual learner I have done other certifications and courses in fitness, social media, personal development, and marketing.
With my extensive background in many different fitness disciplines and my personal journey of finding out I have Endometriosis, which acts like an autoimmune disease, I can meet so many different people right where they are in their fitness journey. From young aspiring athletes, women in their childbearing years, to aging individuals working to maintain their mind , body, and spirit. I have the background to help meet those where they are and watch them build more self confidence and strength through movement.
Getting to where I am today has been a total blessing. I decided to fully take the leap of faith and go out on my own this year with private and semi private Pilates classes and Community Collaboration Fitness Classes in Fort Collins and Windsor. There have been a lot of mountain top and valley moments over the years, but being where I am today and the encouragement from those around me has been so humbling.
The biggest lesson I have learned along the way is to know your value! No matter what industry you are in, know your worth and stick with it! If a future employer or client doesn’t value your expertise or time, then it might not be the right fit and that is ok! This lesson was so crucial for me to be where I am today.
I want the world to know about Live Fierce Wellness is…. I am here to shatter the glass ceiling in the fitness world and women’s health care awareness, to stop the dieting culture and instill a healthy relationship with food and fitness, to debunk myths about women’s health, to support more mama’s during childbearing years, to show women they are enough and powerful, to build communities that lift one another up!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would start most mornings with coffee, whether made at home or walk over to our local Dutch Bro’s or Bindle and explore some of the nature paths around our neighborhood. Then we would head downtown and check out some of our cute shops and eat lunch at Penrose in the Exchange, It is local with a great place for the kids to run around and really feel the vibe of our city with many choices of adult drinks to ice cream and other food as well. We would head up to Horsetooth and enjoy some time outside followed by an afternoon at The OBC Wine Project and Odell Brewing Company taproom for a glass of wine or beer and hang out on their big open patio and enjoy some live music that they usually have every weekend. A dinner would be at the Rio, which you got to have one of their margs if you never have! And a breakfast would have to be at Urban Egg Downtown, we sure love a morning out for breakfast. And maybe we would head to Loveland to the Donut Haus too and snag one of their homemade donuts, my fav there is their baked cinnamon rolls! There would be some home cooked or smoked meals too, we love entertaining and cooking at home with just us or a group of our neighbors!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The biggest support has been from my husband, who 7 years ago told me to quit my stable corporate job because it wasn’t giving me life and to do what I loved! He has always cheered and supported me along the way helping me reach goals and set bigger ones.
