We had the good fortune of connecting with Sheli Baez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sheli, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My grandma likes to say that I was “born to perform” so I’ve always been drawn to the arts. However, it wasn’t until my first job out of college at a Television station that I realized I could have a career in VoiceOver. After years of training and prepping, I decided to take it on full time and give myself the chance to dedicate my full attention to my career.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As easy as it appears to do VoiceOver, it is much more involved than just speaking in front of a mic. Voice acting is exactly that: Acting with your voice and it requires skills that include breath control, diction, the ability to add emotion to words and persuade the listener at times. On the other hand, VoiceOver is still a service-based industry and being self employed requires you to effectively act as the Operations, HR, Accounting, Production and Marketing departments simultaneously.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m based in NYC so, I’ll skip this question

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Locally, one of my favorite clients, the Denver based Honest Films, produce gorgeous visuals for clients and are overall a rad bunch.
