We had the good fortune of connecting with Sly Tha Deuce and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sly, what do you attribute your success to?
Outlandish optimism and work ethic. The belief that everything works out in the end, so if it isn’t working out then it isn’t the end.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m proudest about the authentic approach to my projects. Writing low quality, catchy hits is easy. Writing great songs that are still genuine to one’s own life experiences is a much more daunting task. The path to where I am today was definitely long with may twists and turns. It was certainly not easy. In fact it was Outlandishly difficult. So many individuals have taken my heart for granted that I almost folded. I took some time to refocus on my major goals and cut off those who would do me harm, even unintentionally.
The lesson I had to learn over and over again is: when someone shows you who they are, believe them. I kept trying to put my optimistic twist on lames and liars. The fact is real is rare and that’s ok.
What do I want the world to know about me? That’s a somewhat funny question because I used to spend so much time trying to make sure “the world” knew about me. Now I work to make sure I know more about the world. Someone once told me, “Success is the sweetest revenge.” Mark my words, Genius; I will have my revenge.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We gotta hit the mountains without a doubt! We’ve got some of the best hiking, snowboarding, fishing, and camping sites in the world bro. We’re definitely gonna catch a live music show. It doesn’t matter when they come into town either because QoncertApp throws like 10 events a month all over the state so we’re sure to catch one or two that week. As far as food, we’re going to have Questa Walker as the private chef at the house. Mango House when we’re in the lanes.
I think the women in Colorado are some of the most fun and interesting people to check out. From publicists, to radio station directors, to attorneys, to athletes, Denver has many intelligent, beautiful, and creative ladies on the scene. Gotta show off my friend from out of town
Of course we have to hit the studio while my friend is here so I’d call up JG, Ha$h, HitnBell, and friends so we could meet up with Paul over at Mint Audio on Sante Fe and make the magic happen!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Where to even begin?! The Barrett family comes to mind immediately. They have been in my corner for every critical moment since high school. The Thomas and Gourley families are in many ways responsible for my creative growth and I couldn’t say enough to thank them sufficiently.
TEAM-O! is like a storied athletic franchise. The roster changes slightly from year to year and yet the organization is still whole. It would take the entire article to single every out contributing member but I MUST mention the Hall of Fame inductees: Lovie B., Nina B., Donte B., Asha B., Auburn A., Sean M., Dayne E., Bajon N, and Tank.
Musically I’ve been blessed to work with other legends here in the rocky mountain region such as 5280 Mystic, Antman The Doctor, CO Myrical, DJKTone & Top Flite.
