We had the good fortune of connecting with Sofia & Kassi Beer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sofia & Kassi, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The success of our brand is dependent on meticulous attention to detail. And not just the visual details of our picnic experiences, which is definitely part of it, but thoughtfully choosing our vendors, locations, and retail products as well. The details are in the table settings, sure, but also in carefully choosing great locations and add-ons for our customers so that they are given an unforgettable experience. It is our determination to only work with the best local vendors in Denver that ultimately set our picnics apart and we pride ourselves in excellent customer relations, too. Our brand shines because we are unapologetically dedicated to our awesome city and our customers -whether they live here or are only visiting.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As the owners of a company in an industry that doesn’t yet exist in Denver, there’s not really a measuring stick to hold ourselves to. There are picnic businesses around the world, but mostly in beach cities, so it’s been a ride. The weather in Denver, while, honestly, heavenly most of the time, can sometimes be unpredictable, as any local knows. We are learning as we go and do our very best to be as transparent with our customers as possible- and truly have declared ourselves self-taught weatherwomen. We are so grateful that our customers have been 100% awesome and understanding in situations where the weather takes a psychotic turn, but it can be stressful for all parties involved.
Other than that, the truth is that because this is a totally new industry here, the sky’s the limit. There are SO many directions we can take this business its over-whelming in the best way. It’s a creative’s best-case scenario. There’s a lot of fails, but that’s the life of an entrepreneur! If you’re not winning, you’re learning.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well, this is an easy one- we’d take them on one of our picnics! There are SO many beautiful locations to visit, and so many local goodies to pick up on the way. Maybe a couple of bruschetta boards from Postino, a six-pack of beer from Lady Justice Brewing, some delicious sweet handpies from Bubby Goobers, and OF COURSE the best charcuterie boxes in Denver from Fig & Honey (she’s a genius).
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The Denver community. First, our fellow small businesses – never in a million years did we think we’d be welcomed so warmly into such a vibrant, driven, and talented community in the trenches of a pandemic. We are so grateful for all the friends and mentors who have jumped all the Covid hurdles alongside us while simultaneously cheering us on. It is our mission and duty to always be there for those who were there for us and that includes our second shoutout- our customers! We are aware that our business is different + new and our rad fellow Coloradans couldn’t book with us fast enough despite the state of the world. They trusted us to keep them safe and happy during their special celebrations and we are forever grateful.
