Meet Denille E. Obermeyer | Abstract Painter + Business Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Denille E. Obermeyer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Denille E., why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I didn’t realize I was “artistic” until my senior year of high school, when the art teacher introduced us to all the variations throughout the course of history. Seeing all the different ways of expression awakened in me a desire to pursue creative job opportunities. That’s what ultimately lead me to study art, photography, and graphic design, and eventually earned my bachelor in Fine Arts. That one class over 24 years ago, set my love of creating in motion!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My creative journey has been pretty random, with lots of twists and unexpected turns. I don’t like schedules or “normal” jobs. For that reason, I usually try to find unconventional ways to “work”. Over the years, I’ve learned how to turn my interests and hobbies into a way to make money. It’s taken time and courage to feel confident in this, but I’ve also enjoyed the flexibility to hop around from one creative venture to another or just do them all at once. It’s been difficult to embrace that I’m someone who does things unconventionally, but through it all I’ve learned that deep down, I just LOVE creating things that bring people joy. Nothing is more rewarding than giving someone a finished product that I’ve put my heart into, and see their eyes light up, whether it’s a painting or something from my Etsy shop. I just like making people happy with the gifts God has given me!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There’s a LOT to love about Colorado, and definitely plenty to do. Here are a few of my favorites: Hiking – Red Rocks, Dinosaur Ridge, Castle Trail/Mount Fountain Park, North Table Mountain, South Valley Park.
Breweries – New Terrain, Blue Spruce, Living the Dream, Over Yonder, WestFax Brewing, Great Divide, Joyride Brewing, New Image, Golden City, Station 26, Weldwerks, 4 Noses, New Belgium (Just to name a few. Lol).
Bear Creek Lake Park – Great for kayaking, beach time, and hiking.
Tiny Town – Unique and fun for families.
Lair o’ the Bear Park – hiking and playing in the stream.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’ve been blessed to have SO many encouragers throughout my life. My husband, Jason. My sister-in-law, Lisa. Fellow artists Jayme Mansfield and Anna Feneis. Countless family and friends (you know who you are). And of course God! Their examples, praise, and pushing has helped me achieve many of my goals.
