We had the good fortune of connecting with Stacey Mead and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Stacey, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
I find motivation in the following:
You control 2 things: your attitude and your effort.
This appeals to me in numerous areas of my life, but especially in the realm of owning a small business. It is inevitable that any small business owner will hit bumps in the road, and they will also hit milestones. The above saying is a reminder to keep your chin up during hard times and to remain humble during the good times. Also, the more effort that is being put in will result in more success.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art lies in capturing beautiful moments, whether in nature, or among people looking to visually document an experience. I get excited thinking about the future, and where Wolf Eyes Photography will expand moving forward.
There is no other way to get where you’re going as a small business owner other than to have a drive to succeed, passion for your work, and an ability to overcome challenges. It’s not an easy thing to accomplish, but following your desires and turning something you love into a career is an endeavor I would encourage anyone pursue. Go with your natural abilities and see what happens.
I’ve overcome challenges by reaching out to resources for help (ie: SMBD) and adjusting my mindset to continue moving forward through these challenges.
The biggest lesson that I’ve learned so far is how important it is to build strong business relationships. Treating clients as more than just another deposit into your bank accounts goes a long way. Learn about the people you work with and keep open communication with them.
The thing that I want Wolf Eyes Photography to be known for is its success in being born from a place of passion. My hope is that it will inspire others to follow their dreams as well.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Anyone visiting Colorado from out of state should experience Old Town Fort Collins. Buy some souvenirs from Nature’s Own, Trimble Court or Alpine Arts then hit Snooze for brunch where they cater to all types of dietary preferences/restrictions. When it’s time to experience something outside of Fort Collins, I always suggest taking a moment to relish in the relaxation at Mount Princeton Hot springs located in Nathrop. Strawberry Hot Springs is another place I would highly recommend, and if you really want to enhance the experience, visit both!
Colorado is also known for its beautiful mountain scenery. To get the full view of what it is to live in our incredible state, check out some of the trails. Sapphire Point Overlook in Dillon never disappoints.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have to give a huge shoutout to the Small Business Development Center in Fort Collins. They’ve been so helpful in guiding me through the process of everything that it entails to own a small business, and I wouldn’t be where I am without them. Also, a HUGE dose of gratitude to the businesses around Northern Colorado that carry Wolf Eyes Photography merchandise (Nature’s Own, Bath Nursery, Fort Collins Nursery and Beaver’s Market just to name a few). My sincerest thanks also to the professionals in my area who become beloved headshot clients. None of what I do would be possible without these amazing folks!
