We had the good fortune of connecting with Stephanie Pekala and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Stephanie, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Starting a business came very naturally to us! We (Steph and Josh) are a couple who love to craft together. Over the past couple of years, we both found crafts that we became passionate about. For Josh, it was beading, and, for Steph, it was crochet. As we spent more and more time working on our projects and getting complimented on our work, we decided to start a business together to be able to share our work with the community. It was also a great opportunity to offer more financial support to keep doing what we love. While we both already work multiple jobs, we spend as much free time as possible working on projects, developing our business, etc.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
We are still very much in the growing stages of our business. While it has felt like a natural step for both of us, it hasn’t always been easy! Some of the biggest challenges for us have been dedicating enough time to both creating our work and developing our business/brand, upfront and ongoing costs that go into maintaining a business, and reaching exposure to our intended audience. We have learned that authenticity and passion go a long way. We love to sell at markets and other in-person events to really connect with our local community, both customers and fellow small businesses. We would love the world to know that we are just two people who love what we do and put our entire hearts into each creation, no matter how big or small.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Colorado is such a fun place to visit! Here are some of our absolute favorites:
Attend a concert! Denver’s live music scene is incredible, and there is always a fun show going on. Some of our favorite venues are Red Rocks, Gothic Theatre, Bluebird Theatre, Mission Ballroom, Marquis Theatre, Summit Music Hall, and Fiddler’s Green Amphitheatre.
Visit Denver Botanic Gardens! One of our all-time favorite places to get lost and enjoy nature.
Take a hike! A great one for visitors is Chautauqua Park.
Visit local shops! We love Shop at Matter and always take friends to check out their unique range of books, art and art supplies, games, and more.
Eat at local vegan restaurants! City O City, Watercourse, Vegan Van, Wellness Sushi, Bluebird Sushi Sake Grill, V Revolution, Cherry Thai, Masalaa, Yak & Yeti, Fellow Traveler, and The Corner Beet are just a few of our favorites.
Go paddleboarding at a state park! If you’re visiting us in the summer, there is a 95% chance that we will be taking you paddleboarding at Chatfield or Cherry Creek State Park.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We would love to shout out all of our friends who have encouraged and supported us to make our dream a reality!
