We had the good fortune of connecting with Jamie Chihuan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jamie, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The one thing I would recommend all artist or creatives do is to stay consistent and creative. Take a photo everyday or sketch something. Practicing always makes perfect and that is one major factor in my success. When I first began my career as a artist I realized how hard it was to develop a niche/theme in my work. But through constant creation I was able to make one.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art focuses on surreal and expressive themes that is carried out through different mediums. I love to use bright colors against my dark subjects like skulls and human hearts to juxtapose the meaning. A lot of my landscapes are based in the desert. A place I have found an affinity for but I have never lived in one. I like to think of it as the deserts in our minds.

I am a self taught Latino artist and I think what sets me apart from other artist is my approach to marketing my art. I love to put myself and my art out into the world. I also love attending art walks and galleries to get my artist network bigger and stronger. I encourage everyone to do this. I know it can sometimes be hard to come out of a introvert shell but it’s worth it.

My brand A Deal in Hell is the where I sell my art and produce creative projects. Currently I run everything but my vision is that A Deal in Hell will be the number one creative agency in colorado if not the world. But at the same time selling my art and building my own image.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite and most visited spot in Denver would be the Santa Fe art district and the Broadway area. I have recommended my friends often to go check out the galleries on Santa Fe. Especially during the first Friday’s that are held at the beginning of the month. Broadway is a great place with a lot of glass shops, dispensaries, and food like the brutal poodle.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to shout-out the Museo de las americas for supporting my art endeavors since 2019.
