We had the good fortune of connecting with Sydney Keigley and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sydney, what inspires you?
Having a career in the creative industry, it is easy to be overwhelmed or intimidated by other creatives. It is even easier to let these things become road blocks to your own success. Instead of letting these things get to me, I use them as a direct source of inspiration for my own work. I think to myself, why can’t I do that too? Why can’t I be successful? Or even more specifically, why can’t this be my niche, my aesthetic, etc.? It can. Just because someone did it first or someone is farther along than I may be, doesn’t mean I can’t do it too.

I love the idea of pulling inspiration from different creatives, different companies, and different projects. I am a hodge-podge pinterest board, if you will. I don’t have to be any one thing, and I can pull inspiration from anything from a instagram graphic design influencer to a box of noodles at the grocery store. That’s the magic of the creative industry – inspiration is everywhere.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a freelance designer, I try not to limit myself to any one thing in particular. The majority of my clients are requesting a small-scale website design, logo design or re-design or a one-off designed print/marketing piece. What excites me most about what I do, is that I am helping a lot of other small businesses at their inception. I help them bring their brand vision to life and watch as they take their business from an idea to a professional and official feel so they are able to be taken seriously and feel equipped to be successful.

I feel lucky to work with small businesses because they appreciate and respect me as a professional and know are immensely grateful to have an affordable, quality option to help them with the projects they need help with. It feels like a collaboration and a partnership and I almost always have gained a friend and a supporter when I complete a project.

While I am still at the very beginning stages of my career, I do feel very grateful to have the business and success I have already. I was working a full-time job at the beginning of the pandemic and unfortunately lost my job. At that time, finding a job that was fit for me was next to impossible. I spent a lot of hours looking through postings, applying and ultimately feeling rejected. But, what started as a way to be able to make ends meet and fill a void while I was unemployed, quickly turned into something I realized I loved. And that was, working for myself, and having full responsibility and ownership over my success. I learned how important it is to be an advocate for yourself and scream your successes. It isn’t greedy or shameful to be proud of yourself and the best person to believe in you is YOU.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Avanti Food and Beverage – a great way to try start-up restaurants’ food, have a tasty cocktail and enjoy a beautiful view of the city

The 1Up Arcade Bar – two locations and endless fun with retro games and great music

Have you seen the mountains? I mean, come on.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My success is almost all thanks to word-of-mouth recommendations from my clients!

Kristi Spotz, a Denver personal trainer and close friend of mine, has been an avid supporter of mine and often serves as professional inspiration for me. She has runs her own personal training business, Body by Buff Barbie, out of the Rocky Mt. Flex Fitness gym and also has online clients all over the nation. She works her butt off on a daily basis for her clients and makes a conscious effort to be daily inspiration for her 10k+ followers on social media. She can be found on Instagram and TikTok at @the_buffbarbie.
