Meet Tanja Gorenc | Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tanja Gorenc and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tanja, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I’ve always been a risk taker. My motto is “You can’t grow if you don’t take risks.” So far, it has worked out pretty well for me! I started NeuroBloom without really thinking too much about it. I wanted to make my own schedule and pick my own client base and at the start of the pandemic when everything felt out of control is when I formed NeuroBloom. We had just moved back to the area of town I grew up in, so I quit my job and started focusing on my vision of starting a group practice. Looking back, I didn’t really put much thought into it, nor did I really secure any sort of financial stability prior to quitting my job. I feel proud at how much NeuroBloom has grown since then and am looking forward to finding out what the future has in store for us. I feel that risk taking is a required part of success, hopefully I am right!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
NeuroBloom focuses on using neurofeedback in conjunction with talk therapy to help our clients through life’s challenges. I am so proud of the team I have built, they are a dedicated group of people always hungry to learn more. The culture that has formed over the last few years has been amazing. Our clients praise us for “being real humans” in sessions with them which means a lot to me. We have a unique focus on getting to the “root” of client’s struggles by using neurofeedback. I had some great mentors in the field who trained me well, and I hope I am doing them justice by training my team in the ways I was trained. When I started grad school to become a therapist, I never dreamed I’d be doing neurofeedback, I knew NOTHING about it when I started and now I am running a successful practice based off of my values to serve the community I grew up in. Although there have been lessons learned along the way, it’s been nothing short of an amazing experience to have so much growth in such a short amount of time.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh gosh, this is a hard question! There are so many wonderful places to eat and hang out in Colorado. I love the mountains and nature…so anything mountains would be awesome! I’d love to take a friend to visit Grand Lake and take advantage of the beauty there, maybe do some hiking or water activities on the lake. I’d stop at a little restaurant in Evergreen called Willow Creek Restaurant and sit on the patio to take in the beautiful lake views and then treat them to a day at the spa and hot springs in either Glenwood, Hot Sulphur Springs or Strawberry Park Hot Springs in Steamboat. We have a favorite barbecue restaurant in Frederick, Georgia Boys, that I’d take them to. There are just so many places, they’d need to stay longer than a week!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My partner has been very supportive throughout the process of me starting NeuroBloom. I am much more of a risk taker than he is and his support along the way has meant a lot, even though it has made him quite anxious at times. His rational mind has been the balance I needed to talk me off the ledge of some of my spontaneous ideas! I also work with some of the best colleagues. I have formed many close relationships with other therapists who have all been a great source of support for me and for NeuroBloom and who have contributed to our growth as a team.
