We had the good fortune of connecting with Tanya Lim and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tanya, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
If I had to pinpoint one category – it would be my willingness to take risks, to put myself out there and to embrace change. I find myself saying “yes” to projects that push me out of my comfort zone, making presentations/teaching classes in front of larger audiences than what I am used to and shifting gears when efforts are not bringing in the desirable outcomes.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business is called Family Pupz. I specialize in puppy and adult dog training – everything from basic manners to behavior modifications. I am also a doggy doula – I help expecting families prepare their dogs for life with baby & I work with dogs and toddlers in order to ensure safety and harmony within the home. I am most proud of using only the most current, science-based and positive approach to training! I’ve been an pet entrepreneur for the past 10 years now and even though my business has changed locations and has shifted throughout the years, it took a lot of hard work to get to where I am today. I wasn’t easy, but that’s a part of the process and I wouldn’t change it for anything! The main lesson that keeps coming back to me is the importance of building relationships! We appreciate and value each of our partners and would not be where we are today without them! I want the world to commit to a positive training approach and I hope for this to become the main way that we interact with and teach our dogs. Our brand is all about promoting ethical and kind but still effective way of training with a focus on enrichment and the well being of our clients.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite restaurant and spots in town are Safta, El Five, Improper City, Blue Sparrow coffee, etc. We’d take a walk around RiNo, check out the graffiti and Denver Central Market, as well as Larimer Square with it’s beautiful lights! We’d also do loads of hiking – check out the Red Rocks Amphitheater, the Evergreen Lake, etc.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a shoutout to Dr. Spencer, Dr. Robb and the whole team at Goodheart Animal Health Center! They are passionate about the well being and the positive experiences of the animals in their care and I truly love them for that! It’s a clinic that will put in the extra work in order to ensure that pets have the best time while in their care.
