We had the good fortune of connecting with Taryn Vaughn and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Taryn, why did you pursue a creative career?
I chose an artistic/creative career because it aligns with my personality; a free spirit. To be able to have control of my destiny has always been important to me. I don’t like the idea of someone telling me my worth, therefore I created my own lane to where I can be my authentic self and connect with like minded people.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
R.Cher Ltd. (pronounced archer) is a clothing brand that offers ready to wear upscale customs and was created for people who want to shop affordable luxury. It was birthed in 2017 and became an official LLC at the beginning of 2020. Originally when I first created R.Cher, it was named after my niece. I came up with the name Rhyder & Company, but wanted something more creative and mature for the audience I was targeting. While still incorporating the roots of where the name originated, I formed R.Cher, which promotes being the highest form of self, while aiming above all low vibrations. With all moves made, we always prosper in every aspect of life.
I created R.Cher for people to be able to give their input into the merchandise and to be able to ALWAYS find something they want. For me, it’s hard to find clothes that are different, affordable, and fashionable. I wanted the people to be able to know someone local they can refer to and get what they’re looking for off top while still having a sense of exclusiveness.
I am most excited and proud of my website becoming official, and my brand reaching local, as well as national and global levels. I’ve thought long and hard about entering a different aspect of the fashion game, and it wasn’t an easy decision. I am my worst critic, so often times I overthink and beat myself up when my work isn’t perfect. During those times when I feel doubtful and I’m ready to give in, my friends build my courage right back up. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had people tag and refer their friends/families to me to make them something custom, and this was before they even knew my brand name and before a website. The endless love and tags from people referencing me to creative ideas and pushing me to a new limit, keeps me going. I’m so grateful for those who believe in me when I don’t believe in myself.
I want any creative who is struggling to know that it’s okay not to know where you’re going at the beginning, but it is important just to START! I never imagined I would be where I’m at now with my modeling and fashion career, and I’m so thankful that I decided to not limit what I am doing as just a dream, but to make it an actual career. Anything is possible, and when you hear and wear the name R.Cher, know that you are prospering. That is what it’s all about
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This question is a little hard for me because I’m easily a home body. I recently just visited a black owned brunch spot called “Mimosa’s” located in the Five Points. The vibes were on point, the music was right, and their drink menu was definitely fun and different; this will probably be my new summer spot. Other than that, I’m really a nature/outdoor type of person so a few good spots for some scenic views would be Garden of the Gods, Manitou Springs, and Lookout Mountain if you’re trying to stay closer to Denver.
I enjoy going downtown! I do hope to see more culture, entertainment, food, and clothing spots here in Colorado; we’re a little behind when it comes to those things compared to other states.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost, I’d like to thank GOD for allowing me to know myself and see my vision at a young age. Without Him, I’m nothing.
I’d also like to shout out my support team; my family. My mom has been my ride or die through out my entire modeling career, as well as the beginning of my fashion designing career. She’s invested in me in every way possible to make my vision come through. She has also motivated me and kept her faith in me and everything I’m doing, paid or free. My sister and boyfriend also keep me gassed up. They truly see my potential and worth even when I don’t see it myself. They are people I look up to for sure and I’m forever thankful to have them in my life and on this journey.
I want to shout-out all of the creatives I’ve worked with on projects to showcase the black talent here within Colorado from models, makeup artists, designers, hair stylists, photographers, etc. I have worked with amazing people in the year of 2020 until now who all have allowed me to have a role in the wonderful projects they have in the works.
Outside of modeling, I want to thank all of my friends and customers who promote my clothing brand, R.Cher Ltd, which will be launched beginning of June 2021. Without their purchases and the word of mouth, I wouldn’t be able to showcase my talents nor make a living off of it now and going forward. Everyone has shown me love in their own way, so I’m grateful for those who genuinely rock with me and I try my best to make sure I thank everyone for their love, even strangers.
