We had the good fortune of connecting with Taylor Diltz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Taylor, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I started Chariot Counseling to establish a mental health clinic for clients seeking mental health therapy who also desired a more personalized experience. I wanted to run a clinic as a solo practitioner who handled everything from intakes and treatment, to billing and insurance claims – a one-stop shop for mental health where clients always knew who to contact for any concerns or questions. I had seen the backside of several clinical practices, the side that many clinicians may not have to be involved too deeply. The side that can be messy and uncomfortable. How a client is charged, a claim is submitted and tracked, to contacting insurance to advocate for a client’s need for services. I wanted to break off on my own and establish a business where I was running all sides of the practice. A place where a client knew they were safe and always a priority. Mental health care is my passion and creating Chariot Counseling allowed the opportunity to better serve my community.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Chariot Counseling is a mental health clinic that provides a person the safety, comfort, and compassion needed to embark on the journey that is therapy. Chariot Counseling is a telehealth clinic that works with adults struggling with a variety of mental health concerns and was created based on the “Chariot” tarot card, which has symbolic meaning for an individual indicating they are “on the right path.” Mental health can be scary, messy, and difficult to navigate; knowing you are on the right path towards healing, love, and acceptance can be so impactful in an individual’s experience with therapy. The journey to get Chariot Counseling to where it is was not always an easy one. After years of undergraduate and graduate school, an internship, and post-graduate hours, I broke off individually as a fully licensed counselor and created something beautiful. My counseling career leading up to this had been rocky, including working for several practices that closed down due to various administration issues. I had many moments of self-doubt and fear; yet, I continued moving forward with the love and support of those around me, and my desire to show up for clients, who needed consistency.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
A week in Colorado can be the most beautiful week of your life. There is so much to do and see around this area. I would recommend starting up north, in Estes Park, ideally in the fall, and do a haunted tour of the Stanley Hotel, followed by coming down into Boulder and enjoying one of many hikes around the Flatirons. I recommend getting up early and hiking to the top to watch the sunrise spread over the beautiful city of Boulder. If you don’t feel like hiking or being up early, driving up to Lost Gulch for sunset is breathtaking. Some fun spots around Boulder to eat at are Mountain Sun, River and Woods, and Bar Taco. Coming down into Denver, there are amazing spots to grab a bite such as at Blue Moon Brewing and, if you’re feeling fancy, Ocean Prime. Coming south of Denver, I would recommend a hike in Castlewood Canyon or experiencing the Manitou Incline. Fun places to eat around this area are Cansano Italian Steakhouse, Scileppi’s, and Block and Bottle. The best shopping spot is The Barn or The Emporium in Castle Rock.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to recognize the most supportive person in my world, both personally and in career, my husband, Quinn. He has always been there to bounce ideas off of, provide administrative input, and support me through the long hours that owning your own business entails. He has, is, and always will be the person I turn to for that extra love, support, and compassion.
