We had the good fortune of connecting with Tiffany Green and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tiffany, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Taking risks has been an integral part of my journey, a skill and muscle I unwittingly developed from an early age. Whether it was signing up for things and doing it alone or joining the ski club without prior experience, my curiosity led me to embrace the unknown. I came to realize that risk-taking need not be synonymous with fear; instead, it could signify an opportunity for growth.

As an adult and a licensed trauma therapist, I delved deeper into the intricacies of the nervous system, discovering that we often misinterpret discomfort as danger. Early on, I understood that discomfort was a signpost for pushing boundaries and exploring new horizons. This allowed me to see 80 countries, live overseas and try things way outside my comfort zone like rock-climbing and surfing.

In my work at Uprooted Academy, I strive to instill this willingness to take academic risks in the students we serve. I emphasize that venturing beyond their comfort zones—whether it’s applying to challenging colleges, embarking on internships, or studying abroad—can be both imperfect and safe. It’s a reminder that we often confuse safety with comfort.

My own journey into entrepreneurship, starting this organization, was itself a significant risk. It compelled me to find creative solutions when clarity was lacking. In paving the way for the next generation, I aspire to inspire them to embrace risk-taking as a powerful tool for personal and professional growth, just as it has been for me.

What should our readers know about your business?
Uprooted Academy, a national 501(c)3, represents a transformative approach to reimagining local college access and high school support. Rather than seeking to replace existing systems, we are committed to partnering with schools, counselors, and college advisors to enhance the support they provide. Our mission is to leverage technology to streamline the dissemination of information, freeing up valuable time for counselors and advisors to focus on individualized guidance and application support.

Our platform serves as a comprehensive resource hub, offering a wealth of videos, worksheets, and curated links designed to empower students and families. We understand that college applications can be daunting, and our tech-infused approach equips individuals with the knowledge and tools needed to become competitive applicants.

What sets us apart is our deep integration with local organizations. We host webinars, bringing in national scholarship programs like QuestBridge and introducing students and families to invaluable resources like Matriculate. Being the hub elevates the work of those organizations while reaching out specifically to our audience- first-gen, low-income and/or students of color. Our other highlight is hosting large-scale events, such as virtual college fairs in a virtually-immersive platform that is highly engaging, which provides a supplement to in-person events, ensuring that no student misses out on critical opportunities.

Moreover, we recognize the essential role of school counselors and offer free training to bridge the gap in their understanding of the ever-evolving college application landscape. By fostering collaboration and harnessing technology, Uprooted Academy aims to revolutionize the college access and support landscape, making higher education more accessible and attainable for all.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Denver’s outdoor offerings have a special place in my heart. I highly recommend getting an opportunity to experience the city’s natural beauty and vibrant culture. I encourage you to spend time outdoors, whether it’s walking, biking, hiking, or enjoying a show at Red Rocks, is an excellent way to immerse oneself in Denver’s unique atmosphere. The city’s culinary scene also shines, especially since there are so many non-chain restaurants. Ending the day with a visit to a speakeasy in after catching a show in the downtown arts district sounds like a memorable way to cap off a Denver adventure.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Throughout my journey, I’ve been incredibly fortunate to have had an unwavering support system. It all began with my parents, who consistently stood by me and encouraged my aspirations. I can vividly recall moments when I expressed a desire to pursue something, and they would wholeheartedly embrace and support my ambitions. For instance, after watching Michelle Kwan’s inspiring ice skating performance, I found a pair of ice skates under the Christmas tree that year. My parents tried to give me an opportunity to do whatever I was remotely interested in, that they could make happen.

As I progressed in life, this support continued to be a defining factor. Whether it was starting a new job, taking calculated risks, or embarking on a journey to earn a doctoral degree, I found myself surrounded by individuals who not only believed in me but also actively supported my endeavors. Even as I ventured into the world of Uprooted Academy, the support and encouragement I received were unwavering. While financial wealth hasn’t always been abundant within my network, I have been richly blessed with a different kind of wealth — a wealth of support. It’s a testament to the depth and quality of the relationships I’ve cultivated over the years. Camelback Ventures, is another huge supporter of my work. They were the first funder to believe in me as a leader and my vision. Even after finishing their fellowship, I still have access to their insight, support, and expertise.

The belief that these individuals have in my vision and potential has been a driving force behind my achievements. I am profoundly thankful for the remarkable support system that has accompanied me on this journey, reminding me that with their backing, determination, and unwavering passion, I can make a lasting impact on the lives of others.
