We had the good fortune of connecting with Tiffany Jorgenson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tiffany, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When I began contemplating starting my own business, my biggest thought process was that there was no one offering exactly the service I wanted to provide. A CNM offering home birth services that also took health insurance did not exist in Colorado so I knew I had to fill in that gap and it had always been my dream to provide home birth services with my career specialty. I felt I was received warmly by the community and everyone was so excited about the prospect of having their care covered by insurance. I was especially thrilled to be offering services through Tricare and Medicaid as many of those clients would not be able to afford a home birth out of pocket otherwise. It was such a privilege to be able to fill that gap!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Mountain Miracles Midwifery was started with the intent to offer a service no one has been offering that was also covered by insurance. I felt that people were paying for their benefits but not having the choice to use them when it came to them choosing an alternative birthing site beyond the hospital. I wanted to change that and that’s what set us apart. To become a service that offered home birth and took health insurance had never been available in our area and it was such a privilege to be able to offer this service.

This business has challenged me in ways I never thought possible. It has grown me, crushed me and built me back up again. I have learned how far I can stretch before I break and how many times I can get back up again when I’m knocked down. I’ve learned where the end of me is and when I need to humble myself and ask for help. If it weren’t for this business, I wouldn’t have learned how incredibly strong I am. I would not have made the amazing friends I’ve made nor would I know some of the most amazing women I have ever met in my life between my clients and colleagues. This business has in many ways gifted me with my best life and for that, I will always be grateful!

I think the biggest thing people should know is how much sacrifice of time, energy and resources goes into starting a business in general and this business was no exception. But I also want to emphasize the reward that has come with the sacrifice. The joy of getting to watch clients receive the care they deserve in the way the desire it is beyond any confirmation needed that this was the right choice for me! And then to also get to provide a place for other midwives and nurses to work where they can be in an uplifting environment that loves and supports them and their career aspirations is such an honor! We truly have created a shared space where both our clients and our team can get what they need.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’d have to say the first place I usually take people in this beautiful city is Garden of the Gods to hike and enjoy the breathtaking views. We also love walking around the lake at the Broadmoor and visiting Seven Falls. Hiking in beautiful Palmer Park is a must with its unobstructed million dollar views of Pikes Peak. We love going to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo as it gives your beautiful views of the city while also providing loads of entertainment for children. We love Amanda’s Cantina and Fonda for their margarita’s and delicious food. Margarita at Pine Creek is a fun local place that has delicious food with a lovely atmosphere and live music some nights of the week. We also love the summer concert series the city puts on where they have concerts certain nights of the week at different parks across town. If they don’t fear altitude sickness, we do try to get to the top of Pike’s Peak too! Most of the time our absolute favorite place to be is our own backyard! We are very fortunate to live in such a beautiful city and to enjoy the small piece of space we get to live in it!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My biggest shoutout has to go to Desirre Andrews! She was a midwife colleague who mentored, supported and encouraged me as I was going out on my own in an area I had much passion about but very little experience with. She came to my births with me and helped train and guide me until I felt comfortable for my entire first year of practice. She has also come to my rescue on many occasions over the years as we adjusted to our growing number of clients and trained our staff coming on board. She has been my shoulder to cry on, my friend to laugh with and my mentor to learn and grow from. She has been by my side in so many ways and I could not be more grateful for her support over the years!
