We had the good fortune of connecting with Tim Meegan Jr. and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tim, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I realized it was therapeutic for me. I was doing it for myself and what was coming out in my poetry and songs was me working through things. I then put those songs to music. Next thing I knew I was playing on a stage.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a singer/songwriter out of Colorado Springs, CO. I’m proud to have an opportunity to put music out there in hopes that people can relate. My songs are my truth and 100 percent authentic; if you can relate to my music then you are directly relating to me. From growing up on welfare, fighting in war, loss, addictions, family, love, and resilience; I cover it all, it’s all true, and its helped me process some hard times! I picked up the guitar 3 years ago as a complete beginner at 37 years old. It became my therapy. A band out of Louisiana (Vivian) heard a very raw recording I had made and they pushed me to write and eventually record my first album. I have recorded a second album already and I’m on the cusp of a third. I wouldn’t say it’s easy to write music, record, or play live; in fact it’s a lot of work. I poor my heart and soul into my music and that makes me vulnerable to the criticism of doing so when you put yourself out there in that way. However, I believe in my music, my message, and therefore it is easy; I’m having fun.
Everyday is a new challenge as I try to grow my music. There are highs and lows within the music business. I wake up everyday believing I’ll find a new way, idea, or plan to grow my music. You just get up when you get knocked down. I’ve spent my life overcoming obstacles, so I feel I have learned to be resilient. It’s also very therapeutic for me, its one of the major ways I find sanity.
I’m an Iraq war veteran who grew up on the south-side of Chicago. I’m a full-time Denver Firefighter of 17 years, family man, and now musician. My songs come from these experiences and are tried and true. I’m an Alt-Country/Americana artist singing a different kind of country music. You can find my early recordings on Spotify/I-tunes/Amazon Music under “Tim Meegan Jr.” I’m excited to start releasing songs from my second album. My website will also help you find my music. www.TimMeeganJr.com

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Living in Colorado Springs, the mountains are literally out my back door. There are great hiking trails that have some amazing views. You could find a new hiking trail for everyday of the week. The ultimate hike in Colorado Springs would be to climb Pikes Peak, one of Colorado’s 14er’s. The incline is always a great challenge if you are up for it and has one of the best views of the city if you can make the top. Garden of the Gods would be my next stop to show a visitor.
I would probably follow up with a burger from The Public House and one of their rotating local craft beers on tap. I would also make sure to stop at one of the many breweries Colorado Springs has to offer. It’s not just for beer, but for the experience. I believe there is a lot to be learned from breweries and their themes. Usually the name of the brewery or there beers can tell an interesting story. Brass Brewing Co., Bristol Brewing at Ivywild, Goat Patch Brewing, and Red Leg Brewing would be my must to stops! Ask the questions about their names, their background, and you will be highly surprised who you will meet or where they will suggest for you to go next in Colorado Springs. Everyone will have there food stops and things to see.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Everyone who truly has supported my music from the very beginning. The band Vivian, my wife, kids, family, and close friends. My bandmates (The 105’s) who take the stage and support me in every gig. To the growing fan base that’s liking, following, listening, and spreading the word! Love you all and thank you!
