Meet Tommy Connell | Custom Metal Fabricator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tommy Connell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tommy, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I worked in public accounting and consulting for over 12 years prior to starting my own business in a completely different industry. I enjoyed my time in the accounting world, but I was not passionate about it. I always found greater fulfillment in building things. After leading two large renovation projects of my own, I thought there was an opportunity where I could combine the business skills and acumen I learned in consulting with my passion for building and working with my hands. I contemplated the idea of changing careers for several months before circumstances outside my control gave me the “nudge” I needed. Market conditions indicated a reduction in force was needed at my firm, and I was let go from my desk job. I saw this as an opportunity for a new adventure and got to work immediately, trading my suits for steel toed boots. From my perspective, there is a lot of responsibility to working on my client’s home or office. Not only are my client’s making an investment in their living/work spaces, they are investing and trusting in Allotrope Customs to execute on their vision.

What should our readers know about your business?
Allotrope Customs is a full service fabrication shop that specializes in custom fabricating metal, wood, and mixed materials to create structural and design elements for commercial and residential projects, along with custom furniture and onsite/offsite repairs. We work with homeowners, business owners, architects, designers, and builders to collaborate and problem-solve throughout each project.
What sets us apart is our commitment to problem-solving, collaboration, and craftsmanship unlike any other. We see every project as a unique opportunity to balance form and function to create works that bring together our client’s vision and unique style while delivering solutions to meet their needs and maximize their space.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I apologize in advance for this answer, I’m terrible at this…
In terms of activities, I would get tickets to a Red Rocks concert, drive/hike Loveland pass, play a round of golf at a high elevation mountain course, fly fishing, and boating.
In terms of places to eat, I would say Denver Biscuit Company, Linger, the Golden Diner, Bonfire Burritos, and any In-N-Out Burger,

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family and my clients, I wouldn’t be here without either one of them.
