We had the good fortune of connecting with Toni Geolfos and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Toni, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I would say the most important factor behind my success is my attention to detail and perfection. I strive to make sure every single one of my baked creations is perfect and exactly (or as close as humanly possible), to what my client has in mind. No matter how big or small. Another big factor is probably my customer service. In a world where the internet so easily shows the ugliness of some people, I want everyone to know that there are still people out there who genuinely care and are kind.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Shady Lady Cake Co. is a custom cake company that I started just last year. I decided that I wanted to combine my love for sweets/creating something delicious, with my love of creating a piece of beautiful art. The result has been something I never could have imagined, and I’m beyond thankful for it! My clients are so much more than clients to me. They are someone who has entrusted me to create something special for them. In looks and taste. I owe it to them to spend time to get to know them a little, their personality and what little details they might like.

I would say the thing that sets me apart the most is my dedication to creating EXACTLY what you’ve envisioned. The cake can be such a huge part of someone’s day, and i strive to make sure every detail is perfect. That’s what I am most proud of.

Starting your own business is never easy. Starting with practically nothing has made it less easy, but if you truly love something I believe you can always make it happen. I love the work I do but I am constantly learning and improving, and am thankful for where I’m at, but excited for where I am going to go. I’d like the world to know that my story is much like every small business. Hardships that have turned into success but I won’t ever stop learning or perfecting for the people who trust me to do this for them.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would eat at ALL the good restaurants around CO. Maybe take a trip to Estes Park or Aspen so they could get the mountain town feel. I’m sure they’d want to go on a hike depending on the weather. You know, the typical Colorado things to do!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Oh where to even begin. My family is full of artists so I suppose the first shout out should go to them! Without them I wouldn’t have received the artistic talent I have. They’ve also been huge supporters of mine since day one. Definitely my partner Josh. He’s been nothing but supportive and encouraging from the time I told him I wanted to leave my fairly well paying job to go out on a limb and start this! I wouldn’t have been able to do it without his support. Lastly, I can’t forget to mention the community. They’ve taken me in with open arms and supported me since I started. None of this would be as successful as it is without them.
