Meet Alexa Fitzpatrick | Model & Children’s Author

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexa Fitzpatrick and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexa, what’s the end goal, career-wise?
I’ve been pursuing my BAS in Emergency Administration because I want to help communities stay safe and hopefully work for FEMA one day, which is what I have envisioned to be my end goal career-wise. While I’m not sure at this moment where that path will take me specifically or what career I will take after I receive my bachelor’s, I hope that professionally, by the end of my career, I will have achieved a level of expertise in emergency administration that allows me to make a meaningful impact on communities. I envision a career where I can continuously learn and adapt to new challenges, ultimately becoming a resource that communities can rely on in times of need. While I may not have the entire roadmap figured out just yet, I’m excited about the journey and the opportunities to grow both personally and professionally along the way.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Getting to where I am today has been a journey that required a lot of work and patience. After high school, I initially had a broad vision for my life but still needed to consider the dedication and effort it would entail fully. It took me five years to introspect and identify my true aspirations. Throughout this period, I gained valuable insights into my identity and formed connections with incredible individuals who played pivotal roles in achieving my current goals. Presently, I serve as the Student President at Arapahoe Community College, where I’m pursuing my bachelor’s degree, set to be completed next Christmas. In addition to my academic pursuits, I work at a hospital and do modeling on the side.
A significant milestone in my journey is the recent publication of my first children’s book, “Evan the EMT,” a realization of a long-standing dream to create a tool for children to learn about emergency procedures. As a children’s author, my goal is to make learning about safety and emergency preparedness an enjoyable experience for kids. “Evan the EMT” not only tells a captivating story but also serves as an educational resource that introduces children to the importance of staying safe and knowing what to do in emergencies. The character of Evan is designed to be relatable and inspiring, creating a connection with young readers as they embark on an adventure filled with valuable lessons. I believe that fostering a sense of preparedness from an early age is crucial, and “Evan the EMT” strives to achieve just that. I invite parents, educators, and caregivers to explore “Evan the EMT” as a resource for teaching children about safety in a way that is both enjoyable and educational.
While my life may seem glamorous and successful now, five years ago, I wouldn’t have believed I’d be in such a great place. One of my most significant challenges has been overcoming self-doubt, a hurdle that required introspection and personal growth. It’s easy to underestimate the impact that doubts can have on one’s path, but I’ve come to understand that acknowledging and addressing these internal struggles is essential for personal development. During this challenging period, I sought guidance from mentors, friends, and family members who provided invaluable support and encouragement. The journey to overcoming self-doubt involved cultivating a mindset of resilience and self-compassion. I learned to view challenges not as roadblocks but as opportunities for growth. Embracing my vulnerabilities and acknowledging that it’s okay not to have everything figured out has been a transformative experience. It allowed me to approach life with a newfound sense of authenticity and confidence. One crucial lesson I’ve learned, particularly emphasized by my family motto, “Fitzpatricks never give up,” is the power of perseverance. Despite initially dismissing it as silly as a child, adhering to this motto has been instrumental in my journey. By never giving up and consistently seeing my endeavors through, I’ve been able to realize my dreams and become the person that my younger self always aspired to be.
What I want the world to know about me and my story is that this is just the beginning. Every achievement, every challenge overcome, and every endeavor pursued has been a stepping stone towards a journey that is continuously unfolding. I am passionate about making a positive impact in the world, whether it’s through emergency administration, my role as a student leader, working at a hospital, modeling, or crafting children’s literature. My story is one of resilience, self-discovery, and a commitment to lifelong learning. As I evolve personally and professionally, I hope to inspire others to embrace their own journeys, recognizing that each step forward is an opportunity for growth and a testament to the infinite possibilities that lie ahead. This is not just my story; it’s an ongoing narrative of determination, dreams, and the belief that the best is yet to come.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
For a week-long trip in Colorado, I’d want my best friend to experience the best of the local scene. We’d kick off the adventure by exploring the vibrant food and drink culture that makes Colorado unique. The first stop would be Edgewater Marketplace or Stanley Marketplaces, two gems that embody the spirit of locally-owned mom-and-pop shops. We’d indulge in diverse culinary delights, from food trucks serving up mouthwatering dishes to quaint cafes brewing artisanal coffee. To balance out the indulgence, we’d take in the breathtaking beauty of Colorado’s outdoors. A day trip to Rocky Mountain National Park would be on the agenda, with a scenic hike to appreciate the stunning landscapes. We might pack a picnic to enjoy at one of the park’s picturesque spots. For a taste of the city’s culture, we’d explore Denver’s art scene, perhaps visiting the Denver Art Museum or taking a stroll through the RiNo Art District. Evenings would be spent enjoying live music at one of the city’s iconic venues, like the Red Rocks Amphitheatre or a local jazz club. Throughout the week, I’d make sure to include some downtime to simply relax and soak in the laid-back Colorado vibe. Maybe we’d find a cozy local cafe for brunch, discover hidden gems in the city’s neighborhoods, or simply enjoy a lazy afternoon in a nearby park. This itinerary would aim to offer a mix of local flavors, outdoor adventures, cultural experiences, and moments of relaxation, ensuring that my best friend leaves with an authentic taste of the vibrant and diverse offerings that make Colorado an unforgettable destination.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Wow! That is a loaded question because my success and continuous support come from a lot of places. My parents have always been a strong foundation for me as they have always encouraged me to follow my dreams and passions. My Co-workers and friends have always shown up for me and cheered me on no matter what I was doing; I specifically want to thank Monica, Evan, Kristian, Christine, Cody, Danielle, Jordan, Emily, and Kylie. Special thanks are also due to Siska Huljannah and Jackie Garcia, instrumental figures in helping me become a children’s author. And of course, a heartfelt shoutout to Tattered Cover, the first bookstore to believe in my work and carry my book on their shelves. The collective support from these amazing individuals and organizations has been a driving force behind my successes, and I’m incredibly grateful for each and every one of them.
