Meet Torin and Paige Rouse | Walking America Couple

We had the good fortune of connecting with Torin and Paige Rouse and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Torin and Paige, how do you think about risk?
Safety doesn’t necessarily lead to happiness and certainly not satisfaction. Walking America is an enormous risk whether walking into traffic or sleeping in a stranger’s home. But we’ve never been happier. If you’re not taking risks, you’re not challenging yourself. And if you’re not challenging yourself, you’re not going to grow.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The initial part of the walk was the most difficult. You go in with a lot of self doubt as you’re slowly eaten alive by bugs and cooked under the beating sun. But as challenges are overcome confidence grows, and as people display more of their finer nature our love for humanity grows and gives each step surer footing. We’ve learned that we can live without almost anything accept one another… and coffee.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The Camel Air BNB just outside Alamosa, run by Matt and Meghan Stalzer. They gave us a place to stay just as Paige was getting sick and help nurse her through it. They have some beautiful property with some beautiful camels donkeys and ducks.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We have to credit the people of America for keeping us going. We are funded by donations, but it’s the interactions that drive one foot in front of the other. We wouldn’t be motivated if it weren’t for the great diversity of people who have welcomed us in and had deep meaningful conversations with us.
