We had the good fortune of connecting with Trent Campbell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Trent, why did you pursue a creative career?
I chose to do an artistic career after falling in love with playing music in middle and high school. It was fun and exciting and I thought that making a career out of it would be fun. It definitely is fun and can also be frustrating at times. Being able to change and adapt to the industry over time is important and being able to wear many different hats is a must for anyone in the music industry.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Being in bands for most of my formative years was so much fun but I always wanted more control in the writing aspects instead of the ‘group think’ writing method. This drove me to study Contemporary Writing & Production at Berklee and really try to understand how to write the music I wanted to write. Over the past 10 years or so, I written hundreds of songs in multiple genres and also learned thousands of songs while teaching my students. It is this experience of writing and learning and listening to so many songs that has made me the writer I am today. Lately I’ve been writing a lot of melodic/organic house music because I enjoy the faster tempos and the harmonic and melodic content over the driving beat. Trying to just write music that represents me while also staying in somewhat of a box. Lots of Trent Campbell music to come!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Whenever I have friends visit, I love to try and give them a little taste of all the good stuff in the area. These things include a stop at a tasty brewery, some kind of activity based on the season such as snowboarding, biking, hiking. Denver is easy, the weather is usually nice and there are friendly people everywhere and lots of great things to do!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The people that come to shows and support online are so important and actually drive me to be inspired and create more. One person that was along with me for most of my musical career was my drummer. We played in the same bands together in middle and high school and then went on to be roommates and play in the same band for 4 years in Boston while we attended Berklee College of Music. It was nice to be able to go through all of the experiences with the same person and be able to relate and draw on certain experiences from the past. I wouldn’t be the same musician I am today without him.
