We had the good fortune of connecting with Trevin “Kitchen Sink” Kmiec-Grenier and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Trevin “Kitchen Sink”, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk is inherent in hiking and life, I set out on these thruhikes knowing it’s some of the most difficult hiking you can do. That’s the thrill though. In life, you don’t get that reward, without the risk of failure. You kinda have to find the line and ride it, ya know?

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Most people know me in the thruhiking community due to my signature “Wa-Wa” comments on the Farout app. I’ve dedicated my time on trail to provide real time updates on water conditions and flow on trails that I’m on.

Some love it, some hate it. I personally think it’s hilarious.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Going to have to say it would be Denver.

I’d bring my best bro to the museum, we’d eat at five guys, go to red rocks. Definitely hang out at the arcade and then top it off by climbing a 14er.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would have never learned about thruhiking without a peer by the name of Rachel shoemaker. She tossed me straight into the thruhiking life and I fell deeply in love with it’s culture, it’s people and it’s trails.
